After a very busy schedule in BA I am looking for several quiet relaxing days at the beach. Not really interested in crowds, bars, nightclubs or casinos. The ideal area would have a good beach, a very good to luxury hotel with great ocean views and maybe a couple of good restaurants. Does such a place exist in Argentina or am I asking too much?

You can skip Mardel ... although I've never been, Punta del Este (Uruguay) is the "place to go", although it is quite crowded - don't forget, if its something that you are looking for right now (or very soon), it is winter.

Punta del Este is off season right now and will not be busy, but it is "developed" and not "relaxing" beaches when busy. Mar del Plata is even more hyperdeveloped and crowded, but this is off-season too.

If you want somewhere more relaxing, there are some Brazilian beaches, but Americans need a visa.

Gaucho is probably going to kill me for saying this, but I believe that yes, if you want that you are asking too much; chileans and argentinians themselves, when looking for that kind of holiday, at this time of the year, go to Brazil.

Thanks everyone for the comments. Sorry I wasn't clearer on my timing. I will be in Argentina in mid-November. Although I understand this will still be the off-season, I do know that Mar del Playa and Punte del Este are not exactly what I'm looking for. Guess I will have to head north to Brazil, but please don't anyone tell Gaucho.

If you are going as far as Brasil, the north of Chile is about the same distance (3 hours north of SCL). The towns are quiet and not too crowded, and it doesn't get too hot, despite its desert topography and tropical latitude. You don't need a visa (but there is a $100 entrance fee, good for the remaining life of your passport). It will be warm, not hot, dry, with cool ocean temps.

Eastbay 1K thanks for the Chile suggestion since I will be returning via SCL anyway. After a little research it looks like the La Serena area might be just what I'm looking for.

La Serena (LSC) is really nice, the city's name is perfect - I've been there a couple of times. You'll want a car while you are there. Driving is easy and safe. Spring/summer days are cool to pleasant, and can be foggy (think California coast in the spring/summer). Its only about 45 mins flight from SCL. Airport is convenient to town.

:D :D

I promise I wont bark at you for this.... at least not too much, that is.... ;)

I think that Brazil will be an option.... if you still want to go somewhere in Argentina, I would have you check out Carilo (very close to Pinamar).

Now, in Brazil, if it doesnt have to be the beach.... then you should check out two little towns that are very nice - Gramado & Canela. There is this one great hotel (Serra Azul) that is probably what you are looking for...

Cheers
Gaucho
