Since Hilton recently acquired some of the Adams Mark properties and the Antlers property in Colorado Springs only became a Hilton in mid-August, I thought a report on the hotel might be of interest.
Mr. Free101girl and I are both HHonors Gold. We stayed at Antlers Hilton August 19-23 and booked a King Bed, Mountain View room (one step up from standard room).
We tried to check in around noon, but room wasn't ready. We were told to come back at 3:00.
We went off and had lunch, drove around town killing time, and returned at 3:30. Room still not ready. Front desk clerk was extremely apologetic and said that we had been preassigned a corner Mountain View room (category upgrade), but it wasn't cleaned yet. She offered us a corner room that was a partial mountain view and additionally offered to comp self-parking for the entire stay. Sold.
Turns out the comped underground parking wasn't that valuable -- it's free on Saturday and Sunday anyway. The view was okay -- partial city, partial mountain. We didn't care that much. The corner room was fairly big, but nothing exceptional.
The hotel is scheduled for a multi-million-dollar renovation beginning this Fall, and it needs it. Right now the decor and upkeep are marginally acceptable. The look is slightly outdated and a bit shabby here and there -- lots of nicks in furniture, wobbly bits in the bathroom, etc. I'd call it a 3-star that is teetering on the brink of being 2 1/2 star. With a renovation it certainly could go up to 3 1/2 or 4 stars.
We were given three breakfast coupons, each good for one continental breakfast. (Apparently they only give you one coupon per night -- I considered asking for another set for my husband but didn't.) The coupons were good for a very nice continental buffet, or you could pay an upcharge of $3 and get the full hot breakfast buffet, which was excellent.
I must say we were really pleased with the food service at the hotel. Whoever is in charge of that part of the operation is doing a great job -- food was very reasonably priced, well-prepared and fresh, even on the buffets.
On Sunday they had a terrific brunch buffet for $19.95 and allowed us to apply the value of the continental buffet coupon ($6.95) toward that.
We ordered room service one night and it was both inexpensive and tasty. Ate in the brew pub one night, which was also quite good and really very cheap.
Service in general was very friendly. Housekeeping seemed to be having trouble keeping up -- our room was not made up at 4:00 one afternoon, after we'd been out all day -- but they were responsive when we called, and had the room cleaned within 45 minutes or so.
Oh, and there is FREE high-speed internet (ethernet cable) in the rooms! Nice.
I'd stay there again, but preferably after the renovation.
