now here is some fuel for the fire, on the united page here in flyertalk, there is a post that ua is ending lax/sfo-mia nonstops on oct 31. with that, aa is left alone to the market and has the only nonstop service in those markets. think this might fuel hp into adding nonstop service finally, and increase the aa/hp fight cross country

Good eye Flyboy!
Hopefully HP will step up and make this route a reality. Lately, however, it seems as though HP is just standing still watching while everyone else is gaining footholds in other markets.

United Airlines pulling out of MIA-LAX, MIA-SFO that would not make any sense what so ever! These flights and the way in which they are timed are more or less for the sole purpose of Asian and Australian connections at SFO and LAX! United Airlines pulling out of the MIA to West Coast market seems a bit rushed to say the least!
America West Airlines going head to head with American Airlines in the SFO and LAX to MIA route doesnt look like a game that America West would want to enter anytime soon. America West has been rumored to be underperforming in the LAX and SFO Transcon markets they have recently started. Furthermore Miami by far is low yielding in comparisson with JFK, BOS, and IAD!

only the sfo transcons are performing below spec. hp is happy with lax, and their new focus city there. they wouldnt be looking to take on new gates, nor the rumored usair club if they werent doing well

Okay, I am eating my own words on this one... United Airlines is rumored to be ending SFO/LAX-MIA in October..... Wow.... That has to hurt!

You are kidding yourself. The lack of LCC compietition makes this a major yielding route. Yes, United is pulling out, but the reason is simple: they couldn't get the business travelers. With AA offering nine daily flights between South Florida and Los Angeles, how can UA compete with one?
MIA-LAX is rumoured to be the next new point-to-point route for HP...we'll see what happens.

I hope HP does step in. A pure monopoly bodes no one well for long. But more seriously, if HP wants a crack at the business travelers in the market, a big step in the right direction would be improving the security situation at LAX T1. I have to time my trips ex-LAX on HP to avoid the WN peaks; what frequent traveler on an expensive (well, "Accessible") ticket wants to deal with those masses?

I believe HP and US did ask for a elite line, but the airport said no. WN was opposed to the idea. They didn't want people cutting in front of their hordes of unwashed.
