I'm doing what I can to help by increasing my purchases with U; 3 pair of Envoy "Z" fares this fall and a few domestic and Carribean "A" fares.

Sometimes it seems that they make it difficult to make a positive contribution. I'd like to buy more "A" fares through PHL to TPA but the price recently increased. It seems that the PHL-TPA GoFirst fare is reasonable, but they're charging full fare on the Express portion. So I bought the roach fare for this weekend and upgraded free at the 7 day window. U lost out on an extra $400 I was willing to give them. I felt bad, but although I would spend $664, I thought that $809 was too much.

Are there any other ways I can do my part to help U? I'm willing to spread some money around and give the new management a chance, but I need to get some value in return. By value I not only mean the flight I'm taking, but also a better chance of a positive future for the employees specifically and the company in general. Thanks for your help and please flame at will.

How were you booking your flight? US Airways.com?

Sometimes the people at reservations can perform magic. There have been many times where I have looked at the price or even bought my ticket on US Airways.com and then call reservations (within the 24 hour refundable window) and had the agents on the phone perform their magic. Sometimes they are able to combine certain fares that you can't do on the US Airways website. Normally I will book on USAirways.com and then call reservations to see if a better price comes up. If one does (and has happened many times in the past) I will have them rebook my ticket (since it is within the 24 hour window.) It has the same PNR code and I still get my extra 1k miles for booking it over the US Airways site. :D

Thanks Signor(a) Fan.

Unfortunately I'm using the website. I've been waiting for almost 5 years for it to work correctly. I will follow your advice. I do like taking advantage of the 24 hour window and still having a backup booking. Nice!

At R'fest, Mr. Chiames mentioned more than once that current government policy favors LCC. I'm wondering if we can't be of assistance as voters with anything US might seek from the government in the next few weeks. Who sits on what congressional committees is public knowledge. I would hope US would do something like contact all DM members in a particular district or state and ask them to write their Senators or Congressmen (sorry..Congresspersons) who can have influence in being of assistance. If they sent me some form or information I could distribute, I'd happily take copies on my travels and strike up conversations on board and at the airport and hand out such things accordingly.

My one real disappointment at R'fest was that I left with little advice from the airline execs on what I could do to keep US afloat other than spend more money.

I am with you Envoyboy. I live at the airport like many of you (since I fly so much). I wouldn't mind doing some work for US Airways for FREE if it ment handing out fliers or something to get some of the advertising out there.

Maybe Mr. Chairman cockroach can talk to the people in Crystal City to see if we can be of some help. I would be willing to.

Isn't there a series of commercials for Wendy's along these lines? (Unofficial spokespeople for USAirways...)

I've worn my GoFares hat that I got from Roachfest when I've gone on errands to the grocery store and other places. :)

I convinced some friends to go to Vegas for Labor Day. They just booked on US.

See? Every little bit helps.

Could you possibly expand on this or be more specific? While the LCCs seem to get the majority of the new slots that are created at places like DCA, US did get an ATSB loan...

I also booked five trips today for travel throughout the rest of the fall. I only wish that UsAirways got a bit more aggressive in its counter-ads. Leaving everything to speculation is a risky proposition. However, I am sure that they don't want to say much for fear that labor might not be as consenting as mgmt wants.

Nevertheless, positive press and more bookings will hopefully help turn our frowns upside down.

I believe it was the awarding of slots to which he referred but I would bow to anyone who recalled otherwise or in addition to.

Slots and subsidies of various sorts. Years of favoritism that have allowed LCCs to florish -- not that I'm objecting. The legacy carriers have made their own bed and their hands are far from clean. But its probably time to stop coddling the LCCs. They've arrived. The playing field should be made a bit more level.

BTW -- US didn't get a loan from the ATSB. The ATSB is backing the loan but the money comes from other parties.

I try to get friends to book tickets on US or US/UA when I'm planning a trip for several of us to take, and I've gotten three people from 0 to either SP or GP so far. I know we usually fly on cheap tickets, but sometimes there's a last minute Y or B fare in there that has to be done, and since they have status and familiarity with US now, the traffic usually goes there.
