Hilton HHonors - Are your upgrades too big for your needs at times? (Homewood Suites - Biltmore/PHX)

Another business week for me. I checked into the Homewood here Monday morning after having to make a flight change that arrived here at 6:30AM in PHX. Since nobody was in my room Sunday night, they let me check in at 8am. My suite was literally the size of my apartment back home. Turned out I was upgraded to the largest room they have to offer.

I'm very grateful when the hotel upgrades me to better rooms; but I just feel that my lack of time in the room doesn't really justify the need for one of such size when it's just me staying there.

I was curious if anyone else had stories of room upgrades where it seems the room is just too big for just you during travel. It should be a rather humorous topic since nobody really ever complains about being upgraded.

But I've been on business trips where ES upgraded me to a 2 room suite. I mean, I'm not really sure what to think of that. Sometimes I just act stupid and try to make the most of the upgrade by spending one night in one room and another in the other. One time, one of the rooms was a double while the other was a king. So anyway, it's strange stuff nonetheless.

Again, I'm glad to get the upgrades, but I just don't know what to do with all that space sometime!

I was upgraded to a suite that was over 1700 sq. ft and I was alone. It was such a waste, since I was at a conference and spent so little time in the room.

I NEVER get a nice upgrade when I"m on vacation (my luck) :D.

One time during winter somewhere, I got upgraded to a two-story apartment like suite. Kitchen, living room, dinning room, powder room + a room with its own bath on the bottom, the big room on top with a big jacuzzi room.
I remembered I was so cold I had to turn on heat everywhere to heat up the place.

Another time at LAX Hilton, they put me into a conference room. It has a bedroom & a double door open to room with a conference table for about 20 people.

Yeah, it's funny when you get those conference rooms. Sometimes it makes me want to just go out, get my customers, and gather them in my room for the sake of using the space once again. I had one of those in Denver and really had no clue why they would upgrade one person into it. But again, thanks for the upgrade anyway. :)

I've never been upgraded to the townhouse suites before. Although I imagine that would be enjoyable, I can see the pain of having to adjust heat/air for the entire place.

If its free its never too big. Plenty of ways to make use of the extra space ;)

I have in the past been upgraded to fairly decent apartment/suite only to have to fly out again a few hours after arriving. Another time I had a apartment/suite for 4 days ^ but was away for funeral out of town 3 of those days :td:

I really enjoy the extra space when I travel for work. I've been given 2 bedroom suites, so I put all of my work stuff in one bedroom, & it seems to feel more organized that way. If I happen to be in an area where friends live, I invite one over for the spare room sometimes. Have not felt the need to especially turn on more AC or heating.

I've had suites where I didn't even go in some of the rooms.

I have had the conference room suites as well. I would just assume they give me the upgrade to the garden tub suite and a few more snacks or movies.

I had a weather related overnight flight diversion to JAX. We arrived sometime after 1AM, and the airline was putting people up at the holiday inn. I didn't feel like waiting an hour in line to get my hotel voucher, so I jumped in a cab to the nearby Hilton Garden Inn. It was probably 1:30AM at this point and as a very tired Diamond member, they gave me a huge 2 room suite with jacuzzi tub. I fell asleep by 2AM, woke up at 6AM to get back to the airport. I don't think I even turned on the all the lights to get to see just how big the room(s) was before I left.

I had just joined the company out of school. Was travelling to LA for a consulting gig. Must have been my second or third trip down. Working downtown and was staying at the Biltmore. I showed up early in the morning and wanted to drop my bags off before I headed over to the customer. Asked if they had a room, they said well yes and would I mind staying in a suite. Sure no problem :)

Get the key and head up to the 11th floor. went to the end of the hall where my room was. I saw the door for 1169 and 1170 but not 1171 ( room numbers may not be the right ones ) . Hmm. I did see a door for something called the "Music Suite". I tried the key. Click. The door opens, sweet I walk in and drop my bags right inside and head out.

Later that night I get back to my room, no suite, and check it out. seven rooms, two bathrooms , and a grand piano in the living room! Spent two wonderful nights before I had a call from the manager asking if they could move since the clerk had made a mistake and put me in one of the rooms that owners stay in when they visit...

Business travel has been a letdown since ...

At least twice I can think of when I was only on an overnighter, I got the Presidential Suite - which I used a tiny fraction of.

OTOH, I have had some very nice upgrades on holiday as well, where I was really able to enjoy them - like a gorgeous honeymoon "Paradise" suite at GUM. ^

I have gotten some amazing upgrades but it always seems to be those stays when I barely warm the bed much less enjoy spreading out. It is usually fun travelling with coworkers who stop by the room and say "holy crap"!
