America West FlightFund (Discontinued Program) - America's Worst--plane design/engineering question

Just flew from LAS to Denver....What mental midget decided to put a 22nd row in a 737 with seats with 3 inches of leg space and the backs of the seats smashed up against the back wall of the airplane? This results in knee crushing seats, no reclining and get this---the folks in row 21 are allowed to recline into you---so you're literally TRAPPED in your seat when they recline. Misery Misery Misery---Doesn't America's Worst (As all the locals in Vegas refer to it) squeeze enough profit out of the plane that this 22nd row (and 6 lousy, horrific seats) can just be eliminated?

There were no empty seats to change planes and when I asked BOTH stewardesses about this issue, I was met with blank stares, no explanation and women who obviously didn't know WHAT to say. (We truly believe America West trains its people to say nothing when folks complain--too much liability if they agree with you.)

IT was the flight from hell and therefore, I won't be flying again. Anyone who knows about layouts/engineering of 737's or America Worst's finances who can explain the 22nd row? Anyone over 5'7" should be suing for discrimination...

I've flown in Row 22 on a 737 before and while it definitely wasn't the comfiest seat on the plane it certainly wasn't as dreadful an experience as you've made it out to be.

And, FWIW, I'm 6'3".

It shorts the leg room by at least an inch in comparison with the other rows, not to mention the increased loss in personal space when the person in front reclines and you can't in turn recline to keep the space even. IF I wanted to chew the upholstery on the back of their chair, I would.

The point is, we all know that row is just unacceptable truly---so take it out and divide the space left amongst the remaining rows and make the trip enjoyeable for everyone.

Oh wait--AWA doesn't care about customers--that's right so never mind! In that case, they should cram 3 more rows into the plane and make everyone miserable!

As a regular passenger on HP (although not as much as others in this forum) I completely disagree.

I do not believe any further comment is required.

I'm guessing you didn't win any money in LAS. ;)

Nice sarcasm dude..
As a matter of fact, I did win money.

First off, did you choose to sit in these seats? Reason I ask is, HP does take seat assignments and if you had one you wouldn't have had to sit there (unless you chose those seats). I'm not saying having this bonus row is a GOOD thing on these aircraft, I'm just saying that you CAN make pre assigned seating arrangements.

And I think a deep breath is in order, Tobgun was just making a little thing we like to call a joke :)

My advice would be to fly on Airbus when choosing America West. Not that I have anything against Boeing, but the Airbus' that HP uses are newer, a bit roomier, and in general just not as ratty as their older 737s.

No offense to the OP but a flight from hell is the back of the bus to Asia or Australia. Hell is not found on a less than 2 hour flight on AmericaWorst. Sorry you had what you perceived to be a horrible experience but to most of us, well,

And, welcome to FlyerTalk.

Welcome to FT!!! But if you joined just so we would all feel sorry for you- I think you are going to be dissappointed. Coach is well coach. The goal of FT is not to fly coach :D
Oh and if you called them "stewardesses" I dont think that helped your case any. They have been flight attendants for years and years.

could you become more original than "america worst". i'm sure there are many resources such as seatguru that probably could have warned you about that row. in addition, if all vegas travelers, which i highly doubt, call hp "america worst," think, you could have flown TED, and then it really couldnt probably get worse than your complaining here. every airline limits their last row, they almost have to. otherwise, they remove a row and lose 6 seats. plus, you were only flying to denver, what's that, no more than 1 1/2 hours actual air time.

No offense, I just know I am a little less tolerant when I lose money in LAS. I learn my lesson and try not to let it happen again. As I said once before smoewhere on this forum, I got pushed back from F to C and had previously had an exit row seat before I was upgraded. They stuck me in a regular seat. I was extremely angry that day. The fact that I had lost money during the trip did not help my attitude I'm sure. I'd write a well-worded complaint to HP, they'll probably send you a $-off coupon.

Sorry to hear you had a bad flight because of the bad seat.

I fly Awest all the time (at least once a month), and I have never experienced anything but excellent service. I do usually get to pick a seat, and try to avoid booking flights on full flights, so that might have something to do with it. Only airlines I have found that have come close to or beaten Awest’s service lately has been Continental and NW, but I usually have to pay more to fly on them. I have not found the seats on Delta to be very comfortable, so I try to avoid them.

Good luck on whatever airline you choose. I will continue to stick with Awest since I have been quite happy with their service.

If all else fails, of course, you could consider advance seat assignment. :-)
