US Airways Dividend Miles (Pre-FlightFund Merger) - status match

I made US SP this year. I know, not that big a deal, but I'm pretty proud of it seeing as I'm only a grad student.

The advice I'm getting is to get another airline to comp my status early next year. The only other airline with which I have any miles to speak of is AA. Does anyone here have experience getting AA to comp status from US? What's the process like?

p.s. I'm not giving up hope in US. I've recently booked 2 more trips on them. I'm just attempting to keep an escape route open.

From what I understand, AA doesn't comp status - they will allow you to take part in a challenge requiring you to fly x miles to get x status. As for other carriers, there's a master status match thread somewhere on the Board - and it has useful information for various carriers.

Basically, you get Gold on AA through Gold Challenge if you fly 5,000 Q-Points in 90 days; Platinum Challenge is 10000 Q-Points. Keep in mind, Q-points are based on class of service, so deep-discount economy is .5 point, discount economy is 1 point, full Y is 1.5 and first/business is 2 points - points are based on mileage.

AA has comped UA elites--but not US elites.

NW picked me up at mid-tier from CP. Got a flight with them this weekend (to a non-US destination) and I'm quite impressed with their website (it works, and well) and upgrade processing (automatic, and I never even asked, or had to fight with a website or call in).

I'll get through the end of the year and decide which direction to go in 2005 and 2006...

AA always seems to require a challenge, which you can just call and get quite often -- don't even need to comp across.
