Further to my post in the new airpoints thread regarding companion fares, highlighting that there was apparently only one set of tables for shorthaul companion tickets for all classes, the Air NZ website now has a business class table on show too.
And ouch - it appears frightening.
Before it cost 42,000 AP for a business class return to the Aussie East Coast or the Pacific Islands, incl Noumea, and now, from Nelson, it looks like this;
to Sydney = 655 AP$ one way, = 1310 return, = 98,250 old AP.
to Rarotonga = 585 AP$ one way, = 1170 return, = 87,750 old AP.
to Noumea = 510 AP$ one way, = 1020 return, = 76,500 old AP.
And that's the minimum - values are quoted as 'from'!
But, AKL-LON used to be 168000 AP, and now it's 1120 AP$ one way, = 2240 return, = 168000 old AP - i.e. no change.
I would have guessed, silly me no doubt, that short-haul business class companion fares was a good thing for Air NZ, being that they'd get one full fare for the deal.
But to virtually double the redemption? Thats [expletive, deleted] for sure.
