Hilton HHonors - Hampton Inn & Suites Colton/San Bernardino vs. Hilton San Bernardino?

Am trying to decide between the two of these. HI is an Opportunity hotel and Hilton will be on P/S =18,000 points.

Read reviews and Hilton appears to be old but someone mentioned a renovation.

HI looks spectacular, but on Tripadvisor it says it is in a slum. Really? I will be there in December if that makes any difference.

KymbaKitty, you originally stated that you liked the property, but in a later thread you said you hated it. What happened?

Am looking to spend only 1 night there in transit from Northern California to Palm Springs and I want to avoid the LA traffic, if at all possible.

Thanks for the feedback!

Hilton San Bernadino is a marginal dump. The two times I have stayed there I have received free breakfast coupons and nice rooms, but nice is very subjective.

Plusses -- free parking, gym, upgraded updated rooms for Golds and Diamonds
Minuses -- it is used for lots of day long conferences and by lots of school sports tourneys

If you look at the title of my last post, you'll see "I love/hate this hotel..." or something to that effect.

It is true. That is how I feel about it. I will probably stay there again...and will definitely stay there over the new Hampton in Colton. It has some real pluses for me (this is for business)...I can get a decent work out before I leave in the a.m., they have bottled water in the gym, they are very flexible with the breakfast coupon (let me trade it for a nice hot nf latte w/a carton of fruit to go), easy on easy off location wise, but the service is very mediocre and the rooms are just okay.

I thought when the Hampton in Colton opened up that would solve my problems....well, it just sent me packing back to the Hilton SB!!
