Hilton HHonors - Rate Guarantee and Room Type Availability

I'm interested in booking a stay at a Hampton Inn.

Hilton.com reservations shows only one room type (a smoking suite) available (even after I select "display all available rooms and rates") for the rate of $162/night. On Orbitz (for the same Hampton Inn on the same nights) a wide variety of rooms are available, including a standard size king room for $140/night.

So it appears my options are to either book the more expensive room on theHhilton website to earn points and stay credits, or I can book the cheaper room and earn no points/credits.

Additionally, I'm assuming the Hilton Best Rate Guarantee doesn't apply here since it's not the same room type. Am I correct? If so, this hardly seems right.

Regards,

At those prices for a Hampton Inn stay, you may want to look into using points for an award. If the property is cat 3 is lower, it would be a worthwhile use of points in my view. Of course, if they have so few rooms for sale, the award rooms are probably gone unless you are Diamond.

You could always try phoning the hotel and making the reservation directly with them. That type of reservation also counts for points, stays, perks, etc.
