Miles do not transfer to Marriott. Amex points do.

Do you have the Marriott Visa card? If not, get one and you will receive 15k points and one free night. The annual fee is waived the first year so you can cancel after you get the points and free night cert.

smumbo123,
Currently, there is the option to transfer AMEX points to Marriott Reward points. This can be done by calling American Express Membership Rewards and providing your Marriott Reward number.
However, please note that Marriott's participation with the Membership Rewards program will be ending on December 31st of this year. So, any transfer requests must be made on or before that date.
Thanks,
Chris

Could the Marriott Concierge explain why the swap deal with Amex is coming to an end? I am not happy with this change.
Is the same thing happening with Starwood, airlines, etc?
For instance, Amex allows a 1 point for 1 FF mile swap with Aeroplan (partners with United). Isn't that a better deal than a 1 for 1 for Marriott Rewards...unless it's coming to an end too?

pwrshift,
I do not know the official reason behind this change. However, I can tell you that it was something that both Marriott Rewards and American Express Membership Rewards decided upon.
Please understand that this change will not effect our partnership with American Express in general. We are merely ending the agreement to allow Membership Reward points to be transfered to Marriott Rewards points.
Thanks,
Chris

Chris...this isn't making sense to me. While I understand Starwood is growing with Amex, Marriott is still way ahead with Amex. The various internet threads on other BBS boards discussing Marriott dropping Amex as a point conversion partner seem to suggest the problem is Marriott's growing involvement with VISA. If true, that would seem to indicate Amex made the decision and not Marriott, especially in view of the fact Marriott's biggest competitor (Starwood) is remaining as a point conversion partner. That pretty much forces me to join Starwood now to convert Amex points to a hotel program. How is that a benefit to Marriott?

Amex has been dropping transfer partners for a few years. While both sides may have concluded they couldn't come to terms going forward, I'd probably look over at Amex as the likely culprit.
Normally I'd guess that they weren't willing to pay what Marriott wanted for points, but that doesn't quite make sense as the conversation rate has been 1:1 (just like DL, CO, etc although those have had good bonuses) and Marriott can't possibly sell their points at a higher price than airline miles.
