Hertz - Grand Am = Specialty Midsize?

Just curious, I rented a Midsize (C) at PBI, and was given a Grand Am. I thought to myself, "Oh well, no upgrade today," and went on with my one-day rental.
Upon returning, I noticed the receipt said:
RESERVED: C
RENTED: YC
I thought Y meant "specialty." This thing didn't have anything special other than what normally comes out of the box (no sunroof, etc.). Maybe the CD player was an option, but that's about it.
What are the requirements to become a specialty "Y" car?

I'm guessing that "Hilton" is just below "Hertz" in the forum list... ;)
But when I get a Grand Am, my though is usuually "Cr@p, another Grand Am," so I agree that you weren't really upgraded.

My bad, Hertz is where this should be, not Hilton.
No breakfast coupons, and Hertz PBI didn't have a lounge. :D
Moderators - please move this to Hertz. Thanks!

Since Hertz is part of Ford Motor Company, anything midsize and not manufactured by a Ford Division is considered a "specialty." Alas, Grand Am = General Motors therefore Rented = YC. At least this is how it has been explained to me. IME typically if the Grand Am is the two-door model, Hertz will claim "sporty two door" and therefore specialty and upgrade.
I'm with you though, reserved midsize got midsize where's the "upgrade."
Hertz likes this type of game though, once reserved fullsize, and arrived GSP to find a Toyota RAV4 in my spot, couldn't get the Hertz guy to understand that Fullsize to compact SUV is not an "upgrade" in my book. He insisted that because the car class was higher, I had received an upgrade and should be happy. When the Station manager could not figure how to put 1 driver, 3 pax and luggage for 5 days into the RAV4, he agreed it was not really an upgrade and having no more fullsize cars available gave up the Explorer in the next stall :D .

That makes sense, as all my non-Ford vehicles have been "Specialty". Most specialty full-size and premiums are "special" with sunroofs, leather, CD changers and such. I did get a YC Malibu once with leather, but my Alero YC was "stock" (though with NL) as was my YC Buick.

I recently reserved a full-size at STL. In the stall was a Ford Escape SUV with leather seats. Although this was considered an upgrade, I'm sure, I generally don't like SUV's and was going to go in the booth to lobby for the Camry sitting in an adjacent space (no hangtag or name on the board above it). But, there was a small line inside, so I decided to take what I was given. Actually, I'm glad I did. Smoothest ride I've ever had in a SUV. Only negative would be the gas mileage. Used up about half a tank with only 83 miles of driving.
