... then 1% for £2,001 and up, according to mailshot just received.

No problem for me, I cut up the card and cancelled the account a couple of months ago. I wasn't using it and other cards were more relevant.

The platinum credit card would now be the no-brainer for an AmEx c.c. - 0.5% to 2% cashback, depending on turnover - unless they meddle with that, too ...

Too late, they already have. I don't know if this is for new cards only or if it's existing cards too. I haven't had any notification of a chagne to the T&Cs for my card (yet).

UK Amex Platinum Credit Card, no annual fee and cashback:

• 0.5% for up to £3,000;
• 1% for amounts from £3,001 to £7,500; and
• 2% for amounts in excess of £7,501

when it used to be:

• 0.5% for up to £2,000
• 1% for amounts from £2,001 to £5,000
• 2% for amounts in excess of £5,000

:(

The old breakeven point was £6,000 expenditure p.a. Below this, the Blue card earned more, above this the Platinum earned more.

Now that point seems to be £8,000.
