I saw a thread like this on the United forum, and it got me thinking about US. Does US give out wings to kids anymore? Or me?

I miss not being able to visit the cockpit during flight anymore. Although I've visited a couple times pre-takeoff or post-landing recently, some of my fondest memories from when I was younger was visiting the cockpit and the captain giving me wings, and I don't see that too often.

On my daughter's first flight about two years ago, she got to peek into the cockpit while the plane was boarding. Then she got a certificate commemorating her first flight.

Heh...I was explaining to her what was going on, what the noises were, what the trucks were doing....and an older gentleman behind us asked if I was in the flight industry. I just laughed and said I flew a lot. He was an Air Force mechanic and said I got everything right.

I get asked a lot now if I work for the airline. I don't, but now I date and live with an employee, so I hear even more about the airlines.

I can't speak for US but previously Delta gave kids the plastic wings but now use a "kids passport" with paper wings. The latter is still pretty cool.
