I have a 3 hr layover before my LGW flight and was wondering if there are any other lounges or sitting areas (nicer than the standard gate area chairs) I can use besides the Envoy club. I am flying a cattle class ticket and not an elite member. Is there a way to purchase a lounge pass or use miles to obtain a pass?

You can get a 1-visit or 1-day pass to any US Airways Club for no more than about $50 (perhaps less); just go to usairways.com and look up the Charlotte club (the best is the one between the C and D concourses) and call.

The Charlotte airport is nice; there is a food court and lots of big rocking chairs. The E terminal is new and not particularly crowded, too, so it's a good place to wait.

Note that even if you do purchase a "day pass", you will still need to pay for any wine, beer, booze. Soft drinks and coffee, etc are free as are the limited snacks.

it's $50 for a day pass, or $35 for a lounge pass (you can only visit 1 lounge at 1 airport)

And the C/D Club is the one used as the Envoy Lounge at CLT (although I imagine that if someone wanted to use the one on B badly enough, they could). You can also purchase the sandwiches and salads available at the bar.

The D Concourse Club was small, but nice, and there was talk of turning it into an Envoy Lounge - but that was another time.
