Here's something that's never happened to me at a Hampton Inn before (or any hotel for that matter) - rowdy worshippers drove me to complain to the front desk! I was staying in the HI in Salisbury NC at Exit 75 of I-85. Nice, normal HI. I was given a room on the first floor. There I was happily watching something stupid on TV when I heard the sound of distant shouting. I thought "Hmmm, somebody is really getting into an argument" but did nothing. At about 10:00 PM, I heard it again - really loud, so I muted the TV and stuck my head out the door into the hall. Turns out, they had rented a function room down the hall to a church group who was holding Wed evening bible class in there, and the preacher was really cranked up and shouting at the faithful. I called the front desk and asked what was up with that, and they assured me that the group was almost done and would be leaving. After the shouting continued til 10:30 (and I really did want to get to sleep cause it had been a LONG day), I was about to call the desk again, but then they finally left.

The next morning, I spoke to the desk and told them that I did not think it was a good idea to rent out their space to such a vocal group when the function rooms were right next to guests who were trying to go to sleep. The desk person immediately apologized and said they would not charge me for that night's stay. I had not expected that to be done for me, but I appreciate their prompt and thorough response.

I had a couple of interesting experiences at the DT SJC. One was a conference for witches and warlocks which was a real hoot. What a crew. Hotel had signs all over warning about not burning candles in room. All manner of activities going on late into the night.

Another was some sorts of animal rights group (not one I recognized). A lot of the participants were dressed in animal costumes. Sort of like the CSI episode if you watch that show. I shared the elevator with a variety of critters. :)

Not bad, but can you top this. In April I was at the Hilton in PHL. The national transgender convention was going on. Now that was a site to behold. :D
