What have the other members found to be the best routing $$$ vs. miles?
I was doing JFK-LAX quite a bit a little while back for $198 R/T I even went as far as JFK-LAX-LAS-LAX-JFK to build up the miles.

i wrote a trip report here or on airliners.net about my hp run in june, fare of 188, phx-phl, but routed through las/lax and back. your best chances to combine segments with miles are double connections through the las and phx hubs. yesterday i got back from reno, but flew, PRC-PHX-LAS-LAX-LAS-PHX-RNO-PHX-LAS-PHX-PRC, 11 segments, under 300, so about $28 a segment. not bad.

A while back, I think 1997 I did a round trip from SAN to ABQ for
$93 total (Southwest was $197 at the time) and I had two comp upgrades
that I got in my executive pak from CO and they allowed me to UG both ways
I got the 750 miles each segment one to PHX and the other to ABQ(remember those days) and a 350 mile bonus for flying first giving me a total of 4500 Flight Fund miles for the trip. That will never happen again. :cool:

Best bang for the buck is actualy not on HP. Check NW flights to Asia. Occasionally you can fly to Tokyo for $300 or so. Did PHX-SFO-NRT-SIN and back last year for about $600RT. A cheap way to get about 18K elite qualifying miles.

I know it's not the best bang for the buck, but I'd rather pay a little bit more and fly the LAX/SFO-BOS/JFK transcons for $198 while sitting in F. That way you can get off the plane every 2500 miles.

this tuesday, the 5th, again, more segments, i am flying PRC-PHX-LAS-BUR-LAS-PHL, the return on the 12th i am flying PHL-PHX-LAS-BUR-LAS-PHX-PRC. 11 segments for under $400 and lots of miles

Would have to be BWI-ORD for $71 RT on UA. I think it was a temporary computer glitch because it only lasted the one day, then went back up to $200. I'm glad I grabbed it when I did.
On HP, used to do BWI-LAS rt for $150 and SAN-JFK $199 (cheapest fare around for that route.)
