Hilton HHonors - Pay & award in same stay -- 1 reservation or 2?

Have stay planned for trip in Feb. One night award, one night pay. Hhonors CSR said can do one reservation. I did two and referenced each other. Suggestions?

So you are staying for 2 night at the same hotel? That is one award. If it was 2 hotels with a night each then that is 2.

I stayed for 2 weeks & it was one stay, so I am not gold past September that I have 3 hotels with 17 nights. I needed 16 hotels........

Gets weirder too; as I inquired on the 4 nights in 90 days promo & was told that my account is not coded for any gold promos past Air Canada last year. So now if someone posts a gold extension, we can't do it if we are NOT coded?

I did the one reservation for pay/award combo earlier this year, and the ff miles never posted. I called HH and the CSR told me that you don't get miles.

Not sure if it is true or not, or if there was just a mistake on the part of the hotel or computer, but it was a hassle that I just gave up on.

If getting the miles for the paid stay portion is important to you, you may want to keep it as two sep and don't combine. Of course you then have to do the check out-check in thing at the hotel.

That's my understanding -- if you combine paid and award stay there are no airline miles for the paid portion of the stay.

Not sure whether checking out and checking back in would work - the computer is programmed to recognize an out-and-in as one stay, and since it is (partly) an award stay, no miles for you.

I did this last month as 2 reservations that were linked. After the first (paid) night, I "checked out" with the front desk but immediately checked back in again for the award part of the stay, opting to keep the same room. When the stay posted to my account I got both point and mileage credit for the first night, but the entire 2 days was counted as one, one-night stay. I'd expected it would only count for one stay but was surprised that the award night didn't count under "nights."

When I called customer service I was told this was due to the way it had been entered into the system--if I'd I gotten the night credit I wouldn't have gotten the miles. Ultimately, she made an adjustment and I got the credit anyway, but she noted this wasn't normal policy and that she was only doing it because I "stay with them a lot." YMMV
