I am an HH Gold and will be travelling to Gaithersburg, MD next month. I need 4 stays to complete the requirement to be HH Gold again for next year. Hilton Gaithersburg is walking distance from my work location will be staying there partly. I am thinking of alternating stays between Hilton Gaithersburg and another Hilton brand hotel(from the below list) that is close proximity to Hilton Gaithersburg to get 4 stays in 4 nights.
Here is a list of approved hotels by my company. Please recommend a hotel from the below list that is in short distance to Hilton Gaithersburg.
Hilton Dulles Airport
Doubletree Tysons Corner
Hilton Alexandria Mark Center
Doubletree Suites Washington DC
Hilton Washington and Towers
Hilton Embassy Row
Thank you!

Neither. The closest HH property would be Hilton Silver Spring, although it is also 10-15 miles out. You can use metro or Amtrak (Hilton Gaithersburg has a shuttle to pick you up) and commute from DC, but it is not particularly convenient.
Hate to tell you that none of those hotels are close. They may not be too far away distance-wise, but you could have a very long commute. Especially during rush hour. Since you mentioned going there to and from work, I would not recommend any of those locations.

I agree with the previous posters. All the listed hotels are way too far if you are going to be commuting to/from Gaithersburg, particularly during rush hour. There is a Hampton Inn in Germantown which is closer and is decent.

This Hilton is probably one of my least favorites. In fact when I travel to Gaithersburg, like I will next week I will stay at the Summerfield suites up the road. This is the only Hilton That I refuse to stay at....
This Hilton, unless things have changed, has no perks other than a poor free breakfast for their Diamonds... I recommend finding another Hilton property nearby if you can.

Has anyone stayed at the Gaithersburg Hilton since they finished the renovation? Is it any better than has been reported elsewhere? Not looking for luxury, but do want a decent bed. Thanks!

I can see the Gaithersburg Hilton out my office window...never stayed there but it looks bleak from the outside.

So you wouldn't recommend it? How long would it take to drive to Gaithersburg from the Capitol Hilton?

Will others (client, boss) know you are hotel hopping??
how's this for a compromise that would raise less eyebrows
AA B A = three stay credits and is a whole lot disrurptive than A B A B.

It would take about an hour to drive from the Capitol Hilton to Gaithersburg during rush hour. The Capitol Hilton is on K Street, in the middle of the business district, a few blocks away from the White House, and not close to any highways.
The first half of the commute would be all surface roads and street lights. The last half would be relatively quick because you would be driving North on I-270 when everyone else is driving South to work. But if you hate stop-and-go traffic, the first half of the commute will kill you.

The Metro ride from Silver Spring to Shady Grove/Gaithersburg would take over an hour because the subway only goes into the city and back out. There is no crosstown subway route. Then you've got another 10 minute ride to get from Shady Grove to the Gaithersburg Hilton.
Amtrak and the MARC commuter train only run about every 45 minutes. And you'd have to transfer at Union Station in DC and wait for another train. So if you miss one of the trains, you'll be waiting 45 mintues for the next one to arrive.

So, no FT'er has acually stayed at this hotel? What's is like to stay here?

I'm pretty sure I stayed there, about two years ago. It was nothing to write home about, but it wasn't terrible, either. I don't think it had an executive floor -- I had just turned Gold, and I remember getting coupons for breakfast in the restaurant (which was pretty good), rather than going to a lounge. There wasn't a lot of stuff within walking distance, so you'd definitely want a car.

I have attended a couple of conferences there, but have not stayed at the hotel. The conference facilities are good.
The hotel used to be a Marriott - but then changed to a Hilton. I remember hearing stories of guests going to sleep in a Marriott and waking up in a Hilton.
A new Marriott was built a few miles down the road, adjacent to the Washingtonian Center: http://www.shopwashingtonian.com/
The new location is 20 miles away from downtown Washington, DC.

I stayed there for a night in April. This is the third time I have stayed there over the past few years. They have upgraded the interior recently so it is greatly improved from the last time I stayed there, although I would agree that the exterior looks pretty drab. All in all it's an average Hilton and the staff was friendly so I had no complaints during my stay... I did have many complaints about the HI in Germantown (about 10 minutes away) but that's another story.

??
Brian, the post they're responding to is my post from just last week. I'm going to be in the DC area and was asking for an update on a Hilton that had
a) been roundly booed several years ago, and
b) been undergoing renovations as of the last posts I could find.
so yes, I DO need and appreciate the advice, thanks all. I'll post my experience next week after I stay there based on bobsyouruncle's update.

Have you checked Trip Advisor to see if there are more recent hotel reviews?

I stayed there in April 2005 or so, it was just fine.
No special memories of the place either + or - but I would say stay there if you're going to be in this area, very convenient.
Hilton Embassy Row in DC is quite a nice place and in a great location but no good if you're trying to get to and from MD each day.
