America West FlightFund (Discontinued Program) - When did "unusually high call volume" become the norm

Just sat on hold, on both land-line and mobile, for 15 minutes before connecting to a res agent. I used the "elite" number on the mobile.

Is everyone else finding that either staffing levels in reservations have dwindled or conversations between res agents and passengers have become more long-winded.

All I wanted to do was change my seat!

Did you update to the new number?

You may have already done this, but they do change the Platinum Elite number (and possibly the Gold & Silver ones as well) when you get your new credentials every year.

The old number still works, but is NOT the Elite one anymore.

It is on the back of your card. There are different numbers for Platinum, Gold and Silver members. Personally, I don't think we should be publishing them here.

For many years, the number didn't change. I had it programmed into all of my phones. I think it was last year that I realized that calls were taking forever and someone here on FT made the point that the number had changed. I checked my card, and sure enough -- a new one. I re-programmed the phones and started using the new number and, low and behold, the long waits went away.

I don't know if it is coincidence or not, but I have definitely been experiencing longer waits than normal in recent months. They haven't been extraordinarily long, but certainly longer than usual.

Personally, I don't think we should be publishing them here.

I agree. People posting them for those who don't already know them (who are not Platinum, Gold, or Silver) is probably the main reason they change them every year now.

While on a trip last week, I tried calling to find out when the earlier flights were. After holding for some 20+ minutes, I finally called my wife at work and had her look them up on the Internet.

Sad state of affairs...

On a positive note, the flight PHX-ATL was great...and food was more than tolerable.

Ok, I see your point. I never thought to look at whether the number is different. I checked and my number had changed. Now I need to edit the speed dialer. Thanks!!!! ^

Must be a valley thing, I got that same Unusally High Call Volume with Cox tonight.
