America West FlightFund (Discontinued Program) - I almost cursed AWA, but they made up for it.

I was flying to my brother's wedding this past weekend. I was flying SFO-JFK on Thursday morning. The flight was flat out cancelled because of weather the previous day the plane just wasn't there.

I spent 2.5 hours in line waiting for the 2 ticket agents to re-book an entire A319's worth of passengers on alternate routes to New York. I got to the front of the line ready to burst, but they were very friendly and pretty much said that I could do whatever I wanted to do and they'd pay for it.

They ended up writing a check for $300 to JetBlue, handed it to me, phoned in a reservation to B6, put me on a paid shuttle to OAK and sent me on my way.

Yes, I ended up at JFK 8 hours after I was supposed to, and yes, it would have been nice if I got a phone call at some point from HP saying my flight was cancelled, but overall I feel like they tried their hardest to get me there.

When a flight is cancellled, I ALWAYS call the flight fund telephone number.
I NEVER have to wait, and am always accomodated to my destination.

I'm glad you had your trip, but I would advise to never wait in those lines for those very busy agents at the airport.

Thanks for that one, I'm going to keep that in mind for next time.

Absolutely call! Otherwise the 100 people in front of you get the seats you want.

Always travel with a guide (electronic or paper) that shows your options. I have the entire *Alliance timetable on my palm pilot, so I can pull up those option all the time. I also have wireless access to available flights, so I know in real time what is out there.
