Online Travel Booking and Bidding Agencies - Anyone SUCCESSFUL in getting EBAY-Priceline points posted AFTER 30 DAYS no show?

thesilb
Aug 15, 04, 10:48 am
Here are my experiences to date:

16 successful bids, in 11 cases the points posted between 12:00 noon and 12:02 noon the day immediately after the EBay transaction.

If they do not post the next day, I have NEVER seen them post "later", automatically. Question 1: anyone with any different experiences?

Calls into the depths of Priceline's levels of phone reps yield the "we've told EBay to pay you 1,500 points, you need to wait 30 days, they ought to post automatically by the end of 30 days" (I am skeptical). I am at about day 26 on the first one where I'm eligible to push the issue further. Question 2: Anyone crossed the 30 day boundary yet and escalated this? What are your experiences?

Question 3: If you have multiple successful bids in the same day, I am assuming the little codes associated with the deposits in your PayPal points detail page are useless in helping you figure out which particular transaction with EBay the points derive from. Correct?

I had 4 unposted priceline bids in the last 2 weeks. I wrote to Priceline and everything they said it'll be posted within 30 days. I'm still a little skeptical.

Otherwise, points normally post by 12pm PDT the next day.

I did quite a few Priceline reservations in June/July and they did post typically the following day or day after.

I did, however, make sure than whenever I made a new bid (changed dates) I always went back to the eBay Anything Points page and started all over.

there really is no pattern to when things post or do not post as of late. starting from scratch does not matter. getting a win on the first bid does not seem to matter. there is clearly a system issue and priceline wants us to wait 30 days.

hopefully all we get posted correctly eventually.

What's the best-practice for followup?

Gleff, you seem to be the first one (who has posted) who is over 30 days. I'm almost there. If you feel like pushing this, I think it is Priceline you need to speak to, and you definitely need to escalate past the front line to the "travel services" people at least. I predict rocky travling on trying to get these posted, but if you feel like leading the way, please do tell us what happens.

I'm going to be able to call again in just a few days now, as well.

I am missing 4500 points as well. Very skeptical they would post without more complaining.

Has anybody had success getting points for August bids - none of mine have posted.

Priceline told me it is 30 business days - that translates into a 6-week wait...

I have one successful August bid that has posted. I don't know which, one of my real frustrations.

I have successful 4* bids from 8/13 and 8/17. One of those has posted.

Juft file complaint with the BBB first against both eBay and Priceline and see what happens. Then you can always complain to the Attorney General as well. You can fill out the forms on the web.

My successful 4-star bid made on August 10 has not posted either. This is really annoying, since you get caught in the auto-email programs whenever you try to resolve. Posting was always within 24 hours on all previous bids.

ARRGHHH

I guess my biggest fear though is that the "success" of this offer has overwhelmed their marketing/financial gurus and it -- like all those wonderful priceline.com bonus $$ offers of years gone by -- will get yanked altogether.

I had successful bids through Priceline for 3* Hotels (via EBAY) on August 23, and August 24.

Neither have posted to my Paypal/EBAY Anything Points account.

Prior to that I had about 9 bookings, and all posted shortly after noon PST on the day following the successful bid.

I did, however, make sure than whenever I made a new bid (changed dates) I always went back to the eBay Anything Points page and started all over.

i am now thinking there may be more to this theory. My last 3 bids have all posted. (still missing 6)

The only thing i did different was when i went to add a zone for a free re-bid i logged out, went back the the ebay start page, re-entered all the info, logged in, and placed a bid with the new zones.

All the bids I have done since starting this process have posted. So my advice is to start from scratch on each bid and not just add free zones thinking that priceline will remeber your ebay id.

That shouldn't make a difference (logging out). My winning bid has the "Take me back to eBay" logo on the top. eBay is such a hassle to get any kind of real response from.

Aug 26, 04, 5:15 pm
I've had points post successfully even when my winning bid included a free rebid zone.

Have had good luck, in general, with all hotel bids posting to PayPal, until last week. So far successful bids made on July 20 & July 24 have not posted.

Is it a general consensus among FT'ers that if points don't post by Noon the following day, you're in trouble? That seems to be my experience.

Here is a link to Ebay help with "Anything Points" (see bottom of page):

http://pages.ebay.com/help/buy/anythingpoints.html

Here is the latest on my end in this saga (copy of email sent to this link today):

Hi there,

I am writing about my Anything Points account. I regularly use the "Priceline" offer through the EBay anything points offer page to purchase hotel rooms. Sometimes I am awarded the 1,500 EBay anything points; sometimes I am not. I am currently owed approximately 60,000 points (Value: $600.00) that are not in my account. Some of these transactions occurred over 60 days ago (the offer page guarantees the points will be posted within 30 days).

I have contacted Priceline regarding this issue at 800-774-2354, where the call was escalated to management in their "Travel Services" division, and top-level supervisors have assured me that Priceline is correctly transmitting the information to EBay, and has paid EBay for all these missing points (see example below).

I have also contacted PayPal at 888-221-1161, where my call was escalated to Member Services and handled by Angela and her supervisor Melissa. They have explained to me that the process by which points are awarded and then posted to my EBay Anything points account is: Vendor (Priceline awards points --> EBay receives this information from vendor and assigns a unique redemption code --> EBay transmits this redemption code to PayPal, which posts the points in the user's PayPal account. Angela and Melissa assured me that for the purchases in question, PayPal has never received a redemption code or posting information from EBay. Therefore, I conclude that (i) Priceline has correctly transmitted the information; (ii) EBay has received this information; (iii) EBay for some reason in these cases has not generated a redemption code nor sent any information to PayPal.

It is suggested by all parties that EBay is the only party which can resolve this; therefore, I ask for your assistance in receiving these 60,000 points (value: $600.00). I understand that email is the only way I can communicate with EBay, and that no telephone calls are allowed. Therefore, excuse the highly technical nature of this email. Please help me with this.

As one example (of about 40 overall example where 1,500 points are due in each case): on July XX, 2004, I purchased a "four star" hotel room at Priceline. The Priceline request number was XXXXXXXXXX. According to Priceline, on July XX at 4:02 a.m., Priceline transferred 1,500 points to my account (value: $15.00). According to PayPal, there is no record of these points being awarded or posted to my PayPal account.

There are approximately 39 more examples of this. Some "kink" is occurring. I should also mention that many people are experiencing this same issue: see www.flyertalk.com in the "Travel Bidding" forum. The issue is obviusly larger than just me, but as I have so much money at stake, $600.00, I am really hopeful that you can help resolve this. Should you wish to discuss this by telephone, please call me at (XXX) XXX-XXXX. Thank you in advance.

I had four 5-star bids yesterday. Was awarded 1500 eBay points today. Thank you Priceline, thank you so much.

They now owe me 9000 points at least. I believe there is more to this story as well - at least I have their "We owe you 4500 points, have a wonderful stay" email from early August.

LH747FTL
Aug 27, 04, 2:46 pm
Dear Sir/Madam at Priceline,

I emailed you before about eBay Anythingpoints. I am very frustrated by your
process to be honest. Yesterday, I had four successful bids for 5* Bangkok
Hotels (e-mail addresses xxxxxxx@HOTMAIL.COM, xxxxxx@xxxxxxxx.FI). I bid
each and every bid via eBay Travel, thus I should have been awarded 4 x 1500
points.

However, only 1500 posted today at noon. Despite Priceline quoting a
30 business day window, it is a commonly known fact that the points either
post the next day or never. I am not the only one having issues with the
points. Please have a look at www.flyertalk.com and choose the travel
bidding forum. I am still missing points (4500) from my August 4th bids.
Right now, I am missing 9000 points or $90 of PayPal currency. I bid approximately 100 nights per year via Priceline, so I hope at least someone at the Priceline team would take these comments seriously.

Sincerely,

Mr. LH747FTL

It is absolutely useless to contact eBay's or PayPal's customer service if you don't have a designated representative. The Priceline's customer service is even worse.

Whenever I have contacted the company to make it right and they don't follow up I typically file the complaints with the BBB and Attorney General. I urge you to do this as well. This normally guarantees that you will receive satisfactory resolution very promptly.

Here's the email I sent.....

Dear EBAY Anything Points Program,

I have three outstanding hotel bids with Priceline that I have not received points through the EBAY Anything points program. In other words, the points have not been posted to my PayPal account.

Although I'm aware that EBAY claims it can take up to 30 days for points to post, it appears that points are always posted at PayPal at Noon the day following the successful Priceline bid. This is the case with each and every one of my Priceline bids that DID get posted correctly to my PayPal account. In my case, if the points don't post at PayPal by Noon the following day, they never get posted at all.

Also, it is customary that successful Priceline hotel bids made via the link from EBAY contain an icon "Back to EBAY travel" in the upper right hand corner of the Priceline confirmation page. This icon, which identifies that the bid was made via EBAY disappears once the bid is 30 days or more past. This is very disheartening as it appears to remove the proof that one placed the bid via the link to Priceline from EBAY.

I know I am not the only person with this problem. I read and contribute to a Travel Bidding forum at FlyerTalk.com. There are several others posting this very same problem. Obviously there is some sort of technical glitch that is preventing many people from getting their points to post properly.

Below are the three outstanding Priceline hotel bids that have not posted to my PayPal account.

Hi [Name omitted],

First off, thanks for taking the time to follow back up. I appreciate it. Unfortunately, however, the response provided by EBay's Anything Points specialist doesn't help to address my problem.

It is quite true that I've had a lot of transactions, and quite true that SOME of the points (52,500 approximately) have properly posted, the problem here
is that quite a few of the points have NOT posted, as outlined in my previous email. I'm short about 60,000 points (value: $600). So to recap: I am owed
approximately 112,500 points, of which 52,500 have posted, and 60,000 are missing. It has been over 60 days since some of the transactions occurred in which no points were ever awarded (EBay and Priceline's posted rules say all points will be posted within 30 days).

Please let me know what I need to do to get the missing points credited to my account. If you or anyone at EBay wishes to discuss this by telephone, please call me at (XXX) XXX-XXXX or let me know a number at which I may call you. Are they saying some of your points are going to someone else's PayPal account? Or are they merely looking at the points that have already posted to your own account, disregarding the 1000's that haven't? Too bad we don't get an email confirmation from EBAY everytime we win a successful Priceline bid.

Hello XXXXX,

And my reply back to them.....

Hello XXXXXXX,

Thanks for your timely follow up and response. I'll keep an eye out over
the next few days to see if the points post to my PayPal account.

Since this seems to be somewhat of an ongoing issue with not only myself,
but others as well, I do have a few questions for the AnythingPoints
specialists.

1. From the three transactions you have just resolved for me, can you
determine where, exactly, the breakdown of the points transfer is occuring,
since we are dealing with three different entities, Priceline, EBAY and
PayPal? Knowing this information is crucial so that myself (and others)
will know where to go the next time points fail to post to our PayPal
accounts. This will save everyone a lot of wasted time, including
employees of Priceline, EBAY and PayPal.

2. Is there anything I, as well as others, should be doing differently when
we are missing points in our PayPal account? Again, since this is
happening to a variety of different people, we want to make this as
streamlined a procedure as possible. Any suggestions you have will be
greatly appreciated.

3. Since this is a fairly universal problem, is Priceline, EBAY or PayPal
taking steps to correct the situation?

Thanks again for your intervention and resolution. I really appreciate it.

Have a good day,

XXXXX

This looks like good class action material. I am missing two 1,500 point awards for 5* hotels and have never had any of my 3 car bid points post.

I just don't have the time to be waste on those phone systems pursuing $45. Given how many of the 41,000 flyertalk members are experiencing problems, I am guessing this problem is huge (given the millions who use Ebay and Priceline).

Perhaps we have a good attorney reading this board who is salivating over the next Ebay/Paypal/Priceline class action suit.

Yeah right!!!! I don't know about that. I'd say there are less than 50 of us that are having this problem that read FT, not 41,000. If this was a big deal, it would be much bigger than a 60 post thread stuck in the Travel Bidding forum. Now overall it IS big and Ebay and PL are screwing a lot of people and withholding a lot of money, but the way the CS is, nobody is really gonna do anything about it other than a few of us who are persistant (and I'm sure even persistance will pay off, but it will do nothing for everybody else who got screwed). I do agree that it is such a bother to mess around pulling your hair out trying to get $10 back from Priceline. The customer service of these 3 companies is just an absolute joke. If any of them had any decent competition in their markets, all 3 of them would be out of business!!

On another note, has anybody thought of disputing the PL charges with their credit card? I was always wary of this tactic as I thought it would take up tons of my time, but I did it about 6 months ago when BestBuy screwed me and it only took about 2 minutes on the phone with the credit card and I was credited my $230 back. Is it possible that if we all dispute every charge that we didn't get our Ebay points for then that would FORCE PL to get on the stick and do something about this? It would take virtually no time (especially compared to writing letters, phoning the 3 different companies, e-mailing them all daily, etc) and if we don't get our points we would screw PL over several times more than they tried to screw us over. I have heard that PL (or maybe its Paypal) doesn't take kindly to people disputing charges. Anyone every tried it before?

thesilb
Sep 11, 04, 8:04 am
My problem with disputing the Priceline charges are (i) I really rely on Priceline and I don't want to be blacklisted, which they certainly could do; (ii) after thorough investigation I do not believe it is Priceline's fault and (iii) I am not sure under the FCRA you actually have a legally valid dispute, for technical reasons which I won't dive into.

I would be much more likely to file a small claims against EBay if I was really pissed off.

There are quite a few "small" class actions by small or medium size law firms; we just hear only about the "big" ones on the news. This has only been going on for a few months...but if EBay/PayPal/Priceline let this continue down the road with no remedy, I certainly think a small or medium firm might be interested in looking into this in terms of a class action. It is sort of a "perfect" type of action fro obtaining class status in a legal sense (relatively small damages per individual plaintiff which makes it unlikely that any single plaintiff will enforce its rights; all plaintiffs similarly situated; etc. etc.).

Since we're dealing with three different companies, I have no basis to automatically point the finger of blame at Priceline. thesilb has done a great deal of ground work, and by his/her findings it looks more like the fault swings toward EBAY at this point.

I think disputing Priceline charges is very risky at this stage of the game.

gregorygrady
Sep 11, 04, 9:57 pm
Yes, I guess you guys are right. I'm not even saying it is PL's fault, it may very well not be. I had just figured if I disputed several charges, then there would finally be some incentive for PL customer service to get off their butts and finally do something for once. There really doesn't seem to be much incentive for them to do this currently as it costs them money to give us our deserved points and we all know PL C.S. doesn't like to do anything to help out a customer without giving them a major hassle.

Just received this response to my question above.....

"Hello XXXXX,

Thanks for writing back with your questions. I'll be happy to help.

Let me explain how the points process works. When you complete a
purchase with Priceline that offers anything points, Priceline records
the transaction, and then sends the transaction files to our points
department. This process usually takes 24-48 hours. Once we have the
transaction files, we are then able to deposit the anything points you
have earned in your anything points account at PayPal. If the points do
not show up in a 48 period with any partner offer, most likely the
problem occurred because the partner didn't send us the necessary
transaction file or they had your information listed incorrectly, so
your points didn't show up. That is why we would first encourage you to
contact Priceline and verify your purchases with them, as well as your
anything points account information, and that will speed up the process
for you to receive your anything points.

Again, I apologize for any inconvenience this situation has caused you.
Thank you for using eBay.

Here have been my observations:

I have placed about 7 bids through the Ebay/Points program (thanks to this forum - didn't even realize it existed). Anyway, first couple went fine, then 1 didn't post. That was a hotel bid that was rejected, and I added another zone, and then was accepted. No points posted. Since that point, I go back to the Ebay points page after every rejected bid and start over from there - and have not had a problem since. Well, except one other time when I forgot to start over, and just added a zone - sure enough - no points.

So, my advice is make sure that if a bid is rejected, you start completely over from the ebay points page. This is what has worked for me, but of course, YMMV.

I have an update.

After not hearing from EBay for some time, I did finally receive an email back from a very nice person at Priceline who stated that he was going to help me with my problem. This was Friday afternoon and I did not get the email until Saturday, at which time I sent a thank-you note and a response. I don't expect to hear again from this gentleman until next week; however, about 50% of my missing points now seem to have posted on Saturday and Sunday, a few fairly large batches of points each day.

I did ask this gentleman in email if he could give me any guidance which I might post here for this community regarding if efforts are underway to make the awarding of points more reliable so that it will not be necessary to have to ask for points to be posted.

I will let you know what I find out, but I have to say it is quite nice to have received two very large batches of deposits this weekend.

Priceline, I still don't understand what happend here - but thanks! ^

I have received another communication from the person assisting me at Priceline. This person has asked that, for now, I do not post their contact information so they can focus their efforts on trying to solve the problem globally for all users versus responding to individual requests. Seems fair. I can tell you, this appears to be someone quite "high up" in terms of rank who is directly working on this, so I suspect a global solution will be forthcoming. Here's a snippet of their email to me:

"I am currently focused on both your specific situation and the
underlying cause of why customers are not seeing their points in a timely
manner. My aim is to see if we can proactively identify customers in the
same situation without having them contact us and apply any missing
points (as well as fix it moving forward)." ^ ^ ^

This person told me that, whilst they are working on a global solution, people should continue to contact the regular Priceline toll-free number to request individual assistance. I suspect that in the event a global, retroactive solution is not found, they will then deal with individual requests on a one-by-one basis.

I think it is really hard to say. I do think, though, that if I were Priceline and I had paid EBay for these points and they were not being posted to my customers' accounts...I would take the time to sort it out. Also I note that Priceline is "reachable" via phone and EBay is not...therefore I speculate that Priceline is receiving the bulk of complaints related to this and is most motivated to act.

I'm not sure we'll ever know what "glitch" went wrong where...but, no matters whose fault this is, thankfully someone at Priceline is stepping up and doing the right thing here.

HUGE THUMBS UP FOR PRICELINE!!!
^ ^ ^ ^ ^

I can now report that I have ALL my missing points and the following to communicate:

We have identified the causes of the couple issues with the Priceline-EBay points transactions. The fix should be in place by the middle of next week. Once the fix is in place, a large batch of points transactions for other customers should post over the following few days.

Customers should start seeing missing points for bookings made up through early September as of next Friday or Monday and then bookings made from early September through now the during the following week.

I am working on setting up a temporary email address specifically for Priceline-EBay points issues for any customer that may continue to not see their points after next week.

Once this address is set up, I would appreciate it if you could share it with the FlyerTalk community. The address will be for points issues only (customer service issues will be directed to the appropriate channels) and I will keep it around until I am satisfied that the ongoing issues have been resolved. Once I have it set up, I will share it with you so you can post it.

OK, so I had pretty much given up on my "lost" $15 from way back in mid-August, especially since successful bids made after then were posting as expected the following day @noon PT. I had sent off a few emails back in September, but got annoyed by both sides telling me to talk to the other via canned email replies and wait "for 30 days to have your points posted". Arguing for $15 wasn't worth it.

I placed two successful bids (3*) on Saturday 10-02-2004 using the ebay travel link. Neither has posted to my paypal account as of 2AM PT on 10-05-2004.

Did anyone else place a successful bid on 10-02 via EbayTravel and get their points? I can handle a stray missing credit, but two in one day !? Have they changed their transfer/posting feeds?

When I clicked for the details, it says the points posted at 10:35pm PDT on Oct 7. So I guess the traditional Noon-the-next-day postings are a think of the past??? I liked the Noon day following posting method, simply because it was easy to target points that didn't post. Of course for multiple bids placed on the same day, this gets a little stickier. I placed two successful bids (3*) on Saturday 10-02-2004 using the ebay travel link. Neither has posted to my paypal account as of 2AM PT on 10-05-2004.

Both successful 3* winning bids posted on my eBay Anything Points account on 10-12-2004. Oddly, these posted less than 12 hours after I used the generic e-mail inquiry on priceline.com (although I believe the activity was unrelated).

I still have a third unposted winning bid (4* = 1500 pts). I received an e-mail from priceline asking me to call them, which I just did. The agent wasn't able to help at all, instead telling me that points post in 4-7 business days. The only remaining non-eBay-credited amount is a successful 4* bid from way back on August 10. The priceline agent sent my info/request to the "escalation" desk and indicated that I would be contacted by email reply again.

<Sigh> This was so much simpler/easier/wonderful when points posted the next day at 12NOON PT.

My 4000 points for PL stays over the past 3 months just showed up today as well. ^ ^ ^ ^ Good job Ebay for finally fixing the problem. And I decided NOT to contact Ebay or PL at all over the past couple months so that I could see if they would give the points to everybody or just those who contacted them. I must admit, for all the C.S. complaints those 2 companies get, they actually did fix this one and for everybody I think, not just those who notified them that they were missing points! ^ ^ ^ ^

I was only missing 4,000 points, however 11,000, yes, eleven thousand points posted to my account yesterday between 2:11 and 2:35pm PDT.

I'm glad the points finally posted (back to August), but there must still be glitches in the system when an extra 7,000 points post. A friend of mine had the same experience as I stated in an earlier post on this thread.

I booked so many times during the summer because of my Hyatt runs that I really could't track what had posted and what hadn't. Today when I checked my PP Points account I was positively surpised to see additional 6000 points there.

They should do better job identifying to which transaction each of the posted transaction belongs to.

Hi, I am glad to see that it seems most people did end up getting points by now. I have just received the email address from Priceline if any of you require specific going-forward assistance:

What I had thought to be a 'sure thing' turned out to be a little bit more of a hassle in ensuring that the points got out to all the customers whom I identified as needing them.

I have confirmation that for everyone I identified as needing points, EBay has received and responded to the points request.

I would appreciate it if you still would not mind posting the email address points@priceline.com for anyone that is still having an issue specifically with their points (for any other issues the customers should still call priceline or email priceline through the help section on the website).

i thought the names had too match on the accounts to do ebay anything to asia miles?

rich

thesilb
Oct 30, 04, 8:33 pm
Rich, its slightly complicated but the simple answer is, no requirement (just make the name at points.com match the last name of the AsiaMiles account, even if the last name being used is not the last name of the points.com user). The "twist" is that once you associate account X with your points.com account, it cannot thereafter be associated with some other points.com account IF a transaction has occurred. Since my friend never intends to transfer to AsiaMiles for himself (he just SPENDS his Anything Points on EBay merchandise - see told 'ya he wasn't a FlyerTalker!!!), it is possible to use his AsiaMiles "one time link" for me.

To be clear, it is therefore possible to have EBAP accounts A, B and C all transfer into ONE AsiaMiles account, provided you use ONE points.com account linked to that ONE AsiaMiles account. Just remember that if the main user is A, then users B and C, once a points.com transaction is completed, will never be able to use their EBAP for transfers in any account other than account A in the future.

Problem is that I've had 9 transactions since then, so 5 are still outstanding. And I don't know which ones!

Actually, I can narrow it down pretty well. I was expecting (6) 1000 point entries, and I received (4), so I know that the 2 missing ones are 1000 point bids. But which 2 of the 6 are missing?

This is one of the most difficult and annoying issues with the Priceline/eBay partnership -- that you can't track which bids post successfully since they don't identify themselves in your Paypal account by PL transaction #.

Ebay Anything points good only for Ebay purchases to my knowledge. And only to Ebay merchants who accept PayPal.

STOP PLEASE AND READ THIS FIRST

Though the spirit of this board is great to share news and information (tips, tricks, etc) There are times such as RIGHT NOW where the line needs to be drawn.

Anybody using this method to "take advantage" of the system, is in effect ruining it for those of us that are honest and play by the rules.

Please do not transfer funding between others. I'm sure the motive of the program was to entice people to buy and receive a "discount" on other goods in their realm of marketing partners etc..

Let me finish by saying:

1. There would have been a cash rebate or kickback program set up if the intention was for you to get cash/money.

2. If anybody is really strapped for cash, it's probably best not to be spending money on Travel, Ebay auctions and what have you.

3. Keep in mind that what goes around comes around. If you do decide to make money transfers with others from points you have earned, I would guarantee that the program will end with little or no notice.

4. Find other creative ways to use or donate your points if you cannot find anything to buy with them.

Thanks and I hope some of you will support this.

With respect, I strongly disagree with your post.

I have for years urged people on FT to be honest and go forward with integrity, and have never condoned unethical behavior much less engaged in it.

Stop and think it through - there is no wrongful behavior here! My view of the requirement that Anything Points not be directly withdrawn in cash is that this requirement allows PayPal to earn a commission on the eventual use of these funds. Whether you pay your wife or some seller of goods is irrelevant to PayPal - they still make 2.9% of the gross payment amount. They end up in just the same place using the above mentioned method as they would in the scenario you suggest is the only ethical one, that is, to purchase goods from someone else.

I expect you might say "no, not true, their parent corporation EBay also makes a final value fee on the sale of merchandise". While this is true if the Anything Points are utilized to fund an EBay auction payment, there is no requirement that the points be used in that way - they can be used to pay anyone else, not just an auction seller. If it was EBay's intent to force a "double dip" in profits from the redemption of these points, i.e. they make a final value fee and their subsidiary PayPal makes 2.9%, they very well could have instituted a condition that these points could only pay auction sellers. They did not do so.

Therefore, no matter if you buy some goods or pay your wife and remove the cash from her PayPal account, PayPal makes the same 2.9%.

You argue that if everyone cross-transfers their money to a cohort, the Anything Points program will "quickly be terminated". That doesn't make any sense at all! If Priceline (for example) is willing to repeatedly fund $15 into Anything Points accounts, and EBay's wholy owned subsidiary PayPal makes 2.9% on each transaction (whether cross-transfered or used to pay for goods - no difference to them), why would they terminate the program? They are getting 100% of what they bargained for - 2.9% of a whole heck of a lot of transactions, all courtesy of Priceline.

There's no fraud or deceit or any unethical crossing of some line here, and one ought not feel "bad" about using your Anything Points in this manner.

I highly doubt that the points will post at this point. However, from past experience with ebay/priceline, you will need to wait the full 30 days before you can start asking them to look into it. I think I contacted priceline first via email, and after several attempts they gave me a number to talk to a real person. I was then promised several times that the points would post in a week, which never happened for that particular bid. However, this was also when they first started putting extra points into accounts, and after I got multiple bonus points for >10x the amount of missing points, I never bothered to call priceline for that stay again.

Thus, the flip side is that you might also get "extra" points at some point in the future...

This routine has become tiresome. Does anybody have an email or direct line/extention to somebody at Priceline/Ebay that can give a better answer than "we realize there is a problem...please allow 2 weeks for your points to post" ? This has gone on for almost 6 months. If they don't want to give the points, no problemo, just say so and those of us that don't like that go go elsewhere, but for them to constantly over commit and under perform is not the most logical choice for anybody in the service business.

Why does everyone keep emailing EBay / Brandon and not using the special link set up for us? EBay cannot solve your problems, they just have to ask Priceline to do it. That's why you keep getting slow results.

Anyone else having problems with EBAY Anything Points posting.

I have about 3 outstanding successful Priceline bids from about 2 weeks ago, that I still haven't been credited with.

I e-mailed points@priceline.com, no response.

I e-mailed EBAY, and was told by Brandon to contact Priceline.

I e-mailed Priceline, and they gave me a phone # to call them. I called the phone #, and they said their system shows that the points from my three transactions were sent over to EBAY, and I would need to contact them to determine why they haven't posted to my account.

This is getting very frustrating. You would think they would have worked out the kinks in their system by now.

I had 1000 points and 1500 points post yesterday. I was actually owed (3) 1000 point posts and (2) 1500 point posts. The trouble is, of course, that now I don't know WHICH 2 of the 5 outstanding bids have posted and which 3 have not.

Something similar just happeded to me. I had two bids for a resort that hadn't posted (which should be 1500 points each). Instead, two 1000 point postings were logged to my account day before yesterday. My two reservations happened about 3 days apart, however. I'm not sure now if I got an extra 500 points, or have been shorted 1000. (I have gotten duplicate points before).

I have two bids with no posts, one last week, one a few days ago. I was the beneficiary of some of the mystery bonus points last fall (about 14,000 I think). Do you think they are looking back to see if they already gave me enough points, or is it unrelated?

I doubt they have the resources available to do such 'backtracking'. And if they did, how would they handle the situation if the mystery bonus points had already been spent on EBAY purchases?

The roughest thing about points not posting quickly is that there becomes no way to tie any individual set of points that post to the bids to which they're associated.

Fortunately, the points@priceline email address comes through. I emailed asking for helping sorting out what had posted and what hadn't.

Got the following note back after a couple days:

I just got a response from Caleb, as well. The two sets of 1,000 points that I thought were tied to my most recent resort level priceline win were actually from a previous win (from the first week in March)...Which I think that I already got point for...But who's complaining? If you have these points and want to play by the rules, just buy a gift certificate on Ebay. They're available for restaurants, movies.. whatever. They get their fee so they're happy. Heck. Buy a Walmart Gift card for 5% off and take it to Walmart and get a money order if you want it to be complicated....

I haven't gotten the points for a bid accepted May 4. I went through the Priceline customer service link, then phone call, politely asking "Should the points have posted by now?". He put me on hold and said his script said "anythingpoints.ebay.com will tell you how long to expect." Maybe I should have said I knew from experience that they should have posted by now and I'd like them to look into it, but I accepted the answer and can't find anything on how long to wait on the Anything Points site. So skimming this discussion, do I understand that I may get good results by e-mailing points@priceline, but I need to wait until 30 days after the bid to do so? I may make another bid before that and the points might post right away, so I won't know which bid hasn't been credited.

Priceline (Caleb, at least) is aware of this problem.

Say what you describe happens.

Just email Priceline saying you're missing points from one bid, but you don't know which of two it is, and give the Priceline request numbers from both bids.

They'll figure it out for you.

I didn't get helpful (or intelligent) responses from either priceline.com or eBay (actually PayPal).

Dear Flying Buccaneer,

Thank you for contacting PayPal with your concern.

If your reward points have not been credited to your Anything Points balance after 45 days, please contact the credit card company directly by using the phone number on the back of your credit card. Please be sure to verify that your eBay User ID, associated with your anything points, is the same with your credit card, eBay account and your PayPal account. Make sure the email address you used to sign up for anything Points is registered and confirmed on your PayPal account.

The eBay User ID you used to sign up for your Anything Points account must be added to your PayPal account for the points to be transferred. Please follow the directions below to add your eBay User ID, if you have not already done so.

To add a new eBay User ID:
1. Log in to your account at https://www.paypal.com by entering your email address and password in the Member Log In box.
2. Click the 'Profile' tab.
3. Click 'Auctions' located under 'Selling Preferences' .
4. Click 'Add'.
5. Enter your eBay User ID and password. Please make sure that this is not confused with your PayPal username and password.
6. Click 'Add'.
7. If you would like to activate Automatic Logo Insertion at this point, click the 'Off' link next to the User ID.
8. Select the 'On' radio button and click 'Update' .

Thanks again for contacting us, and thank you for being part of the PayPal
community.

Sincerely,
Xxxx

Dear Ms. Flying Buccaneer, (Ms.???)

Thank you for taking the time to send us an e-mail. We understand that you would like to know how you can make sure that your eBay Anything points for a hotel room reservation purchased on 5/23 has been credited properly.

Travel requests must be placed through the eBay website with a username linked to the Anything Points program. Points are available within 30 business days after the priceline purchase.

Per our records, the request xxxxxxxxxxx for your reservation at the Sheraton Xxxxxxxxxxx was submitted on May 23, 2005.

You can find much more on the Anything Points program by going to their website at http://anythingpoints.ebay.com.

We thank you for giving us the opportunity to assist you and hope this information is helpful to you.

No, I haven't gotten any response from the points@priceline.com email (2 emails a week apart).

However, I then emailed priceline via the traditional way, got a message to call them, and the rep I spoke to said that the points would be credited within 7 business days. I'll see if that happens, but he very quickly agreed to put in the request to credit my points. I imagine this must be a rather frequent request currently! Anyway, if it does post next week, I will simply directly email priceline via their website after the 30 days has passed for my next missing points bid, and bypass the points@priceline.com address.

Note that at least 30 days have to pass since the date of the bid before you email, otherwise you will just get the boilerplate that it might take 30 days for the points to post.

I was just looking in AirMilesMart for opportunities and came across Priceline = One point for every $2 spent, so I click on it and it comes up with the Ebay Travel Logo on top of the page. Now which is it on a $50 bid-- 25 airmiles points or 1000 ebay anything points (based on a 3 star hotel).

On Saturday I e-mailed both the regular PL customer service & the points@priceline address for missing points from a successful bid on 5/24. Within an hour I had a response from the regular customer service address to contact them by phone. I called and spoke with a very nice man who said PL transmitted the points to e-Bay on 6/16. He had no idea what my next step should be to find the missing points other than to contact PayPal. I sent an e-mail to PayPal, knowing full well it's probably an exercise in futility. The PL CSR suggested I contact PL again if I receive no response from PayPal. This is the first time (for me) that Anything points for a hotel bid haven't posted on their own. Definitely not worth the hassle if I have to go through this each time now.

I agree with Steph58. If it is going to involve a lot of hassle to get the points, I am not going to be bothered anymore. How can anyone keep track of all this stuff? I have a hard enough time sending in CASH rebate forms.

I have written, I have called. I either get no response or a CSR who has no clue. I am still short 19000 points, from March to present. I buy a LOT of stuff from Ebay for my business (almost $50,000 in 2004), so the extra money would come in handy. I like using PayPal and Ebay. Usually the customer service is pretty good. The partnership with Priceline stinks. I give up and will use another link to Priceline, even if it means I do not benefit.

She instructed the CSR to take care of my problem immediately and follow up with me in no longer than a week. She wrote the following email to Priceline.
