American Express Membership Rewards - Switching from HHonors to *wood...How difficult

Hey all I am currently an HHonors Amex user, and with no hiltons on Maui, and the Park Place hotels out of the group, my leisure travel is pretty much not where Hilton is..

Can I call and have my card switched to *wood or do I have to go through the whole approval process again?

I've read that if you switch your card, you do not get the first year bonus points. If this is indeed true, you want a new card that gives you bonus points for stays your first year.

Why even consider switching? I'd suggest not closing the HH Amex (since it's no annual fee) and using it as a back-up after opening up a *wood Amex. Unless you have a plethora of cards in your wallet, it probably won't hurt to keep both open.

I have 6 (about to cancel a few).

1)Centurion (got it yesterday)
2)Platinum (about 10 years, will be cancelled)
3)Platinum Optima (Will be cancelled)
4)Gold Business (Will be cancelled, I dont really use it)
5)Blue card Business (MAY keep, likely cancel)
6)Starwood card (Passed this out to staff at work this is why i am cancelling others)
