The Caribbean - Recommendations for Romantic Getaway
Hoping for some guidance to getaway....romantic-wise looking for a bungalow type place with private cottages/cabins directly on the beach as to avoid the mega lobbies and elevators....but with the food/service/amenities one would find at say an Intercontinental, in the Carribbean (and also west coast of Mexico to explain the cross post). There are sooo many choices surfing I'm just overwhelmed so I figured I toss this out to the travel experts here. Would really like to earn some pts too (AA, Marriott, *Wood, PriorityClub, Hhonors) but not sure if they can fit the bill so it's not a must. Snorkeling and other water activities, light shopping, with mild nightlife available too......throw in some ruins and/or historical stuff and I'd really be a happy camper. Based in FLL but also can fly out of MIA on AA. Thanks!

Four Seasons Great Exuma has beachfront bungalows (attached to another in groups of 2 or 4, but pretty private) -I have a review about to post on TripAdvisor.com

The Hilton Cancun has executive villas that are separate from the main hotel. You might search the Hilton board for a couple of reports that have been posted in the last few months.

There seems to be mixed reviews on Tripadvisor. I'm assuming your review was one of the positive ones. How long ago was your visit? I don't see a review from someone in Carlsbad, CA. Which review was yours?
According to the FS website, there are three types of beachfront accomodations (Beachfront room, One Bedroom Beachfront Suite and a Royal Beachfront Villa)? Which one are you describing above in groups of 2 or 4?
Any other tips or advice for this resort?
Thanks,
Phyllis :)

I still don't think they've posted mine... perhaps it was too long  I agree, I have mixed feelings - a beautiful beach, beautiful water, lovely rooms, I thought charming staff, great spa, ok golf course, but... there's not a whole lot else. If you have bad weather, could be a real drag. And it is very expensive. I'm sorry, don't know how they classify rooms in front bungalows - you'll have to ask them. I do know the Royal Beachfront Villa is huge & off to the left of the beach - would have been more private if it were off to the right looking out from the lobby. If my review shows, it will be from Newport Beach, CA.

Why not paste the same review in FT for this board's benefit? ^

Because they still haven't posted it... Will do if they ever put it up.
You may want to try Caneel Bay on ST JOHN (USVI) or Little Dix Day in the British VI! Both offer privacy and both are legendary for service and food AND the staff! :)

The Hilton St. Lucia has private castias with plunge pools. Very romantic to watch the sunset while soaking in the pool. Alas, I was there with my exwife (after we were divorced- don't ask) so there wasn't much romance. It was even better as I used a GLONP award. Ther rack rate is crazy!
