I am a Hertz #1 Club Gold member (through my employer, I don't rent cars too often) and am 24 years old. My wife and I would like to rent a convertible in Florida, but it looks like it'll cost $63/day or so, compared to $35/day for a Focus or similar.
I reserved a mid-size this week and when I picked it up, was upgraded to a full-size station wagon (though took a downgrade to a compact). What I'm wondering is, can I reserve a class other than convertible and either expect an upgrade, or use a coupon to upgrade to the convertible? Since it's just the two of us for four days (little luggage), we can't really justify the extra $120 out of pocket for the convertible (rather spend that on good food), but we would enjoy the convertible (I know, we want everything).
Any suggestions for getting the convertible for less? My dad rents from Hertz every week and is in the top level of their program, if he made the reservation for me, would we be more likely to get the upgrade?
Thanks,
Dave
