Southwest Rapid Rewards - 'Go Nuts. Triple Credit' Promo

I received a clever paper peanut in Saturday's mail -- says it's targetted -- that announces a triple credit promo for WN and Choice hotels.

For WN it states:
"Get triple credit on all flights you purchase for yourself on southwest.com and fly between August 15, 2004, and November 15, 2004. That's 6 credits per roundtrip blah...blah... etc."

Does anyone -- WN LUVS U? -- know if this applies to flights booked before 8/15 and flying after 8/15? One could read it both ways and I want to know if I have to re-book 2 flights I have.

As I recall, all previous promos have given credit based on flight date, without regard to when the trips were booked.

I was talking with someone on Saturday who received the same promotion. He said that all triple credit was also given for airline and hotel partners. I don't know if it's all partners or just some.

I can confirm that I've been targeted for this promo before and I got triple credits for ALL flight segments during the promo dates even though some of the flights were booked before I received the promo in the mail.

BTW, can you give more details on the triple credits for Choice Hotels? Normally the accompanying triple credit offers are NOT targeted and anybody can use them. At least this has been the case in the past for car rental companies. Thanks.

Gregory: triple credits -- same dates as WN -- when you stay at any participating Choice Hotel in the U.S. and the Caribbean. 1.5 credits per eligible stay at any Comfort Inn, Comfort Suites, Quality, Sleep Inn, Clarion and MainStay Suites. Present your RR number at time of check-in to receive triple credit.

And, you are correct -- the T&C's for Choice do not state it is targetted (as it does for WN).

Additionally, the Hertz triple credit CDP 205418 / promo 953411 that is listed in the long Hertz rental thread here on FT is also listed in this "peanut" and it works for all and is in effect now till 12/15 -- used it at MSY this past wknd.

That's all the partners that are listed.

Wow, that's a smoking deal!!! That's basically $30 off per stay at Choice Hotels. And those scary ghetto Sleep Inns can't cost more than about $30 a night anyways. - T&C's say 'eligible rates' and nothing else.

Cross your fingers and hope your wife receives the promo in the mail. There is no way to get on the promo list or join it if you are not targeted, otherwise everybody would be joining and getting 6 credits per RT.

One positive thing I have noticed though is that SWA seems to be targeting a lot more people with the triple credit offer than they did before the Rapid Rewards 4.0 --> 3.0 credit devaluation on 1/1/04. They probably are doing this to appease the upset customers after the devaluation.

If so, this is an error in judgment. FF program members are greedy. RR will annoy non-targeted members much more than it will please the targeted members. The only way this can work is if the non-targeted members never learn of the promo. I.e., none of them read Flyertalk or know someone who does, and there are no targeted members at the same address. Face it, targeting is outmoded.

A more modern approach is to require on-line registration for a promo, but open registration to all. That way, you capture the people who care about the incentive and don't give the bonus to those who don't care about it. IMHO, this approach is most consonant with Southwest's egalitarian culture. Everybody has an equal opportunity on each promo. Leave the random bonuses and even more random fare structures to the old-line carriers.

Yeah, everybody is getting targeted for this recently............EXCEPT ME!
My brother and wife were both targeted during this past promo that ended on 7/31/04. Unfortunately my wife didn't even know she was targeted until a few days ago (after the 2 or 3 month promo was over) when she checked her RR account online and noticed she got extra credits for 2 of her flights (that's all she flew during the promo...........if I would have known she was targeted we would've flown some more). Anyways, I guess I have no reason to complain, I was targeted in 2002 for this and believe me, I took FULL advantage of the promo. Such full advantage that I'll probably never be targeted for another promo by SWA again. :)

The listed hotels were on the promo... no more... no less. I would call.
