Hertz - Neverlost fleet - what a bore in the USA

Is anyone else with me in saying that the Intermediate size NL-equipped fleet at most Hertz locations I've been to (ATL, RNO, SFO, DEN) is *terrible* - most notably the Chevrolet "CLASSIC" (a rebadge of last year's Malibu). From what I can tell, Intermediate size is the smallest size available with NL. I'd take a Corolla or a Focus with NL if I could.

The non NL equipped fleet in Intermediate size - mostly Mazda 6s, are FAR better. Why doesn't hertz equip these with NL?!

The fullsize variety is a tad better....if you manage to get a Pontiac GP.

I say we all request that the silly little, terrible sounding Satellite Radio systems get replaced with Neverlost... In every car that has one. Has anybody out there ever "request" the satellite radio as part of there reservation?

Most of the counter managers I talk to agree. They'd rather have something they can "sell" than something they have to "give away" especially since when they "give" you a car with one it it, it counts as a loss against their bottom line.

I don't think you'll get much support for that idea on here. Most FTers who have voiced an opinion about sat radio seem to like it, especially since it's thrown in for free most of the time. I know I'm a big fan and would have it in my own car if I drove it more.

Well, throw in the fact that even if Hertz is paying for the radios (which I doubt they are quite frankly, I'd be willing to bet dollars to donuts that they have some sort of arrangement with Sirius where Hertz has zero risk on the deal and Sirius gets a cut of the revenues at best), the radios cost about 10% of what a Magellan navigation system costs, so saying they should replace one for the other really doesn't make much sense.

I've typically received a Mitsubishi Galant when renting an intermediate with NL, and almost always the Taurus/Sable with NL as a fullsize.

How is the NL fleet at ORD? I'm debating whether to request NL as I am somewhat familiar with where I'm traveling around Chicago (and would prefer a "better" car over NL).

Thanks.

Got a Subaru Outback with NL when I rented at ORD in Jul. Thought it was pretty nice. The flat engine config does give a nice exhaust wabble to it :)

Was it the 6 cylinder? I got a 4 cylinder outback from BOS a few years ago. Nice car, and the boxer engine did have a good note to it, but it was a bit tardy.

Yes, the standard NL intermediate fleet is boring as is the standard FS fleet. Hertz standard fleet is boring. I prefer the Lincoln LS or Infiniti G35 but Hertz does not agree with my suggestion to move these cars in the Premium class. :(

The G35 is a premium (well, speciality premium i.e.- YG).

THe LS is a Prestige Collection car.

This may be the case but Hertz (various locations) are very stingy when I request a President Circle upgrade to the G35. They treat this car as if it is a Prestige Collection car. :(

It depends on the location I guess. I've only had them in Fl, but had few problems getting them there as an upgrade from an F or a G.

Which locations have they been reluctant to give them to you?

I didn't pop the bonnet but I'm quite sure it was a 4cyl. I love its cousin though.....the Impreza WRX STI Spec C in its full name. 320hp, 6-speed, 4WD in a mere 2,600lb = 0-60mph <5sec!! ^

MEM is pretty stingy with their G35s. I had to pay $15/day for the upgrade once. Got one last week in MEM for the regular F rate but that was only because I had to return the Vic they originally gave me that was infested with FIRE ANTS!

Best thing to do is have them place in your profile (you have to call them to do this) that you "DO NOT ACCEPT CROWN VIC OR GRAND MARC". This should give you the G35 more times than not.

In my 50+ rentals a year I'll take Sirius over NL any and every time.

Just finished 2-8 day 2500 mile vacation drives and it was nice not having to search AM for something late at night.

If I find a NL in my PC space I'll trade it every time for Sirius.

In this month's issue of Car and Driver magazine, the Ford Crown Victoria garned this comment...

Merge onto a California freeway in a plain-wrapper Crown Vic, and all eyes are on you. FBI? ATF? INS? You wouldn't get more attention driving a stretched Hummer with Heidi Klum sticking out of the sunroof (also a familiar sight around L.A.).

It seems as if the only people who pilot a Crown Victoria hunt terrorists, illegal aliens, or alien UFOs.

However, they forgot to add unfortunate Hertz rental victims! ;)

....and this looks like the most appropriate place to ask, without starting a new thread....

I just received my #1 Club Gold materials in the mail today. The welcome letter mentions that I can now get the NL system in rentals. I know that in the past, I have had to pay for the NL system when I rented with no status. Am I know entitled to the NL system, complimentary, if so desired?

I am also more familiar with the XM satellite radio product that one might find in some Avis cars than I am with Sirius. Do folks here find that one is favorable to the other, or that they are about similar products?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Stevekoe

If only!

No, you still have to pay for neverlost regardless of your status.

Sounded too good to be true.....

Does one pay for Sirius, too, or is sat radio just installed on certain classes of cars (a la Avis)?

Yes, just like Neverlost Sirius is supposed to be paid for, though most people I have spoken to have just found it to be intheir car when they picked it up rather than ordering it.
