America West Announces New Nonstop Service Between California and Mexico's Pacific Coast Beaches
Airline Offers Introductory Fares as Low as $99* Each Way, Based on Roundtrip

PHOENIX, Aug. 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- America West (NYSE: AWA) announced today that it is adding new nonstop service between San Diego and Puerto Vallarta and Los Cabos, Mexico on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1, 2004 respectively. The airline is also adding nonstop service between Los Angeles and Acapulco, and nonstop service between Oakland and Los Cabos. Both flights begin Dec. 18, 2004.

"With an ever-expanding frequent flyer base in California, we are thrilled to bring more low-fare, nonstop service to the most popular Mexico beach destinations to Californians. America West is making exciting and affordable getaways more convenient than ever," said Scott Kirby, executive vice president, sales and marketing.

America West's new flights are a significant enhancement for service between the United States and Mexico. Ruben Beltran, Consul General of Mexico in Los Angeles expressed that, "the Government of Mexico commends the effort of America West to further expand its routes to Mexico." He indicated that, "these new services will better connect both countries and allow both societies to enjoy the beauty and diversity that exist along the West Coast of Mexico and the United States."

America West Vacations offers one-stop shopping for outstanding values in vacation packages including airfare, hotel accommodations and airport transfers. Many partner resorts offer all-inclusive options. Los Cabos features fantastic scuba diving and snorkeling conditions year round and unique, award-winning golf courses. Puerto Vallarta features great shopping, restaurants and a beachfront walkway perfect for watching magnificent sunsets.

Service between San Diego and Puerto Vallarta will be offered on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Service between San Diego and Los Cabos will be on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The service will be provided by America West Express, which is operated by subsidiary airlines of Mesa Air Group, using Canadair Regional Jets. Service between Los Angeles and Acapulco and Oakland and Los Cabos will be offered on Saturdays and will be operated by America West Airlines using Boeing and Airbus aircraft.

:) Yes for sure, remember CJ's are just a way to test new markets and routes as well fill in gaps in current ones. They are used until demand out reaches the CJ's capability consistently or can justify a mainline aircraft, i.e 737, 319.

Hopefully as more planes for the airbus fleet are delivered the crj will be taken off the other mexican routes. :rolleyes:

Good news, definitely competition for AS and AA...

Yeah!!! How exciting now I can fly on a narrow RJ tube (Mesa) vs a regular jet with friendly service (AS).

While I wouldn't choose an RJ over an AS 737 (unless there was a significant price difference - i.e. more than $40), I definitely welcome the competition on the Bay Area - Mexico route.
