MilesBuzz! - Miles - who is buying them?
Many airline and hotel loyalty programs offer you an option to purchase miles for ridiculously high value (say $0,025 for BA).
Are there many people who use this option? if one is a regular traveler then many other options exist - i.e. transfer points from hotel/partner program.
Anyone care to provide meaningful examples why people might be buying miles in substantial quantities?

I have two awards on hold with BA that depend on me getting the 15,000 mile bonus from the EC Visa. If I don't get the bonus in time, I'll need to buy 7,000 miles from BA and use the part cash option to get my flights (total around $270, rather than $410 for 14,000 miles to get the "free" ticket). There just aren't enough good ways to get that many miles into a BA account in less than a month.

When you need those few extra 1,000 miles for an award ticket, it might be worth purchasing the miles, but most of the time it is a rip off.

I recently bought CO's Prestige Pack for $119. They instantly put 7,500 miles in my One Pass acct., & are going to send other things like $99 companion fare certificates and 2 President's Club passes. I think this deal is good. I read the other threads about the pack, and there were many thumbs up!
