I have to go to work in Clearwater, FL. I checked the Sheraton Hotel and I can get my gov't rate of $95 only mon-thur nights. Luck me, I have to work there for 13 nights in a row. So the only way I can stay there is stay there 4 night, weekend at the adams mark (has the govt rate on the weekend), then back to the Sheraton....

I called the resv. dept. at the hotel...she said there is nothing the can do....

So I am going to stay at the Adams Mark the whole 13 night, so I don't have to change hotels...err! They just lost 13 nights of business and I lost 13 night toward my plat. stay!!! no fair!

Any ideas to fix this?????

If the Platinum is that important to you, you could pay the difference between the government rate and the weekend rate, especially since you are achieving Platinum based on the taxpayer's dime and not yours. You pay a little money, you get the platinum, and you don't have to move.

Actually It would cost me $600, and I don't make the much to pay for the diff.... I am going for work 7am till 7pm (only sundays off/no overtime), so it doesn't matter that the tax $ are paying for the room, because they are getting there money worths out of me....

My 2 cents is I think goverment rates are a joke for a couple of reasons, One is a lot of the time people traveling are using there goverment rates for leisure and their is nothing the hotel can do about it, because who is going to question it, I was in the hotel business for many years so I know this for a fact. Second my friend is in law enforcement and has to travel quite a bit for National Security, he gets to stay at everything from W hotels in San Fran to W in times square, I wish I could stay at some of the best places for a meesly $90.00 a night on the Goverments dime and then achieve Platinum status in doing so, I am an SPG Platinum the old fashioned way paying real rates and spending lots of my own money. Only my opinion.

Two options that I see.

1.) Just change hotels for the weekend - you'll get an extra stay credit out of it.
2.) If you can get through to the hotel's General manager, call him and explain the situation. If you can't get through to the general manager, try calling their group sales department. While you are not booking multiple rooms, you are booking an extended stay. I have had some success in this area before.

Good luck.

Thanks for the advise, I called 800# ask for group sales, told them the situation. They gave me the sales directors direct line. Talk to him, he said he was glad I went to the trouble and be glad to give me the govt rate for the whole stay, so i wouldn't have to switch hotels. Done Deal! Thanks!

^ ^ ^ Thanks for letting me know the outcome. I've had an absolutely awful week and this caused a big ole grin on my face. I'm glad that it worked out. :D
