How is Hertz at FLL?

I usually am given upgrades pretty easily when I ask for regardless of the size I book, and I like trying new cars so its fun with the options Hertz has. However LEX is very small and I guess thats the reason why they dont mind giving me a upgrade or a double upgrade. How is it in FLL?

Anyone has an idea of the Ford Mustang? How is it? Do I need to call ahead and ask them that I want a Mustang in case I book it (Standard rite?). Thanks!

My guess is that you would get the Mustang. I had a weekend reservation last October for a midsize and I got there very late (sometime after midnight after I was rerouted). My name was not on the board and they had very few cars left. They offered me a full size, and I did not want something that big. We started looking at other unclaimed cars and eventually I got one of at least 2 mustangs sitting there.

Just returned from a trip to FLL. Booked a midsize with Amex Platinum CDP, which has free upgrade based on availability (plus 4 hour grace period on return -- LOVE that!). Did receive upgrade to a Mustang (my first time driving one, coincidentally), and this was on a day when they were completely sold out.

HOWEVER, the bus service from the terminal to the lot is pretty pathetic. There were several Avis buses hanging around and at least one bus from every other rental agency passed by before the Hertz bus showed up (about a 10 minute wait -- unacceptable). This was about 1pm on a Thursday.
I have heard from others that the bus service is typically sub par here.
Anyone know if they're planning to move the rental lots into the new parking garage they're building? That'd be nice.

I've always received great service and cars from FLL. It's a pretty big outfit with a very nice selection to choose from. The staff have been helpful, and on one occasion they even gave me a Jag S Type for $45/day upsell from a Grand Vic I got on priceline for $30/day.

Yes, the garage being built (near where National and Budget used to be) is a consolidated car rental facilty. Last I heard, it is scheduled to open "sometme" in 2005. There will still need to be some sort of transportation. It's a hike from the middle terminals.

Have to agree on the service. The people are great. I was able to get a car earlier this year when sold out (Presidents' Day/Boatshow weekend). And last year when we traveled with my son and his broken leg one of the check in guys drove us to the terminal in our rental so that our son wouldn't have to transfer one more time.

OTOH, the buses do seem to take longer than the competition. When leaving the Hertz station they have a timer showing how long it has been since the last bus left. Seems to run five to ten minutes.
