I just completed a two night award stay for 4500 points (2 x 3000 x 75%) at Sheraton World Orlando. Here are some details and thoughts:
- When I made my reservation I was booked into one of the perimeter buildings, but upon check-in I found I was offered a modest upgrade to a 6th floor Tower room. Making small talk with the receptionist, I asked if there was any chance of Club Level or suite upgrade. She replied that they were quite full due to a conference, but she promised she would check. To my pleasant surprise, she found a Club Level Room on the 17th floor of the Tower. ^
- Platinum Amenity: Receptionist forgot to offer. I asked and she quickly apologized, commenting that she doesn’t check-in that many platinum SPG members.
- Club Level room and lounge were newly furnished and the family and I felt fortunate, because the rest of the hotel looked somewhat rundown due to all the tourist traffic. Compared to our overall impression of the hotel grounds, the condition of the Club Level room and lounge were a pleasant surprise.
- No Sheraton Sweet Sleeper bed
- I do NOT recommend this hotel for honeymooners or conference goers. This is strictly a family tourist hotel. Also, I don’t think I’d pay cash to visit, but at 4500 points for two nights I was quite satisfied. I’m not sure how I would have felt if I hadn’t received the Club Level upgrade.
- The best feature of the hotel is its location. We walked to Sea World. It is located on the slower (south) end of International Drive, and it’s about ½ between Disney and Universal.
- Do NOT recommend the Blue Marlin Grill. Way over priced. Food and service were fine, but I’d have to see prices lowered by 1/3 before I’d ever dine there again. :td:
- Finally, at check-out I was reminded about the Sheraton Service Promise and I was asked if anything wasn’t up to my satisfaction during my stay. I told that in general I was pleased, but I did mention that during the previous evening, I had called down to the front desk TWICE for a new alarm clock radio, because the one in our room was not working… and despite assurances one would be right up, it never arrived. I received a brief “I’m sorry”. No offer of courtesy points … and I didn’t push it. :(
