Hertz - full size car mix
As I'm sure you all know, Ford is selling fewer cars into fleets and GM is selling more cars into fleets. Seems like more Camrys are showing up as well.
It used to be that the vast majority (I'd say 90%+) of Hertz's full size fleet was a Taurus or Sable - and the % seems to be on a rapid decline. Anyone have a guess on the % split between GM, Ford, and Toyota in the full size fleet? Also, does Hertz consider the Chevy Classic a full size like Avis does? Is the primary GM fullsize the Impala or the Grand Prix?
Just curious. Thx.

For Hertz, the Impala and Grand Prix are considered full-size. Only been chauferred in a Grand Prix a few times by RobotDoctor, so can't comment on the driving experience.
The Impala is now my preferred full-size. It has more legroom then the Taurus/Sable and rides much nicer on poor pavement. Also seems to be more peppy.
The Sable is a personal favorite in YF form, because of the 6-disc changer in the armrest and the automatic climate control. If driving under 150 miles (or in desert conditions), I try and get a Sable, otherwise I go for the Impala.

I just returned from LAS and was pleasantly surprised to find an YF Impala in my spot instead of the expected Taurus. I like the car too over the National version of the Impala. This one had leather seats, moonroof, dual-climate a/c and a decent stereo. (Interesting that the car had Washington tags) The trunk is very large and we found no issues in power or comfort with four large adults in the car.

I wonder if the Official FlyerTalk SEA Impala (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=326341) has been making the rounds?

That would be too wierd - is it white, by any chance?

Hertz recently purchased a ton of Impalas and I do prefer them over the Taurus.
Have had plenty of Sables but never one with leather.

OK, here's a new one for me...
Today at San Jose, I had reserved a mid-size and found a Kia Amanti (YF) in the space. I have to say, I am impressed. The car is about the size of a Mercedes E-Class and has a very nice level of luxury - Leather, Auto/Dual Climamte, Power Seats, and, this is the best part, a 270 Watt Infinity sound system with a Sub (sounds like the S-Class Jag). Not bad power either...

Hertz' Chevy Classic is a "intermediate" or "C" class.
The only GM fullsize I ever seem to get is the Buick Century. Never have gotten a Impala but I would agree that they seem to be multiplying in the Hertz fleet.

Was given the option of a Century, an Impala, or a Taurus last week at ALB (Albany, NY). Took the Taurus as it had a Sirius unit installed. :)

I'm still getting a lot of Tauri. Getting free Sirius about 25% of the time, too. (Not that I use it a whole lot, but it's still kinda cool.)

Silly Q, but what's 'YF'?

A "Y" in front of a car code is a "special" car. So a "YF" is a special fullsize. Just a car that has a slightly nicer level of accessories (leather, sunroof, etc.) than the normal offering.
There is some debate as to if getting a YF instead of an F qualifies as an upgrade, but I suspect that no one here on FT would say it does.
Hope this helps.
