During my last stay a very chatty bartender mentioned that the Chelsea owners were about to open another 4 points in Chinatown. Has anyone heard when ? or if this is even true ? This would be a great area for a Starwood.

Can you offer a few comments on your recent stay? How far is the current location to Chinatown? Within a 10 min walk?

Hmmm, it's a rather healthy walk, actually. If you're not used to walking places, it might be too much.
This is a very brisk neighborhood. A big tourist destination, coupled with closeness to the financial district make it an interesting location for yet another hotel.
Of course the Soho Grand is here too (sort of), as is a Holiday Inn.

The hotel itself is small, rooms are very mall but well designed for the limited space. Both stays I was impressed with the staff as they are trying hard to impress. The location is great, Chelsea is a wonderful part of this city.
The issue for this property are the high room rates - I'm seeing $250-300 a night compared to $200 for the Westin TS. By the looks of it they can charge what ever they want - the hotel has been sold out many weekends this summer.

The hotel is definitely not for people who suffer from claustrophobia. Everything (the lobby, elevator, hallways, rooms, the bar, etc.) is tiny and cramped. But I agree, it is tastefully done and the staff are super friendly.
