Starwood Preferred Guest - I am targeted for a Free Weekend Nights promotion...or not!

Just got a flyer in the mail today for a promotion offering a free weekend night for every three nights I stay at Starwood properties. Upon going to the indicated site to register (spg.com/threeweekend), I am informed that actually, I am NOT eligible for this promotion--but I can sign up for another one that gives a free weekend night for every five nights stayed.

I'll bet that our dear William can fix you up on this one. Save that flyer.

You're luckier than me on both counts - I am apparently only eligible to "stay 10 nights" between now and November and receive two free weekend nights.

And, I'd rather have your 10 nights/2 weekend nights at Category 5 and 6 hotels.

ok
i've always been confused about these free nights promos... these earned nights do not count towards the stay totals right? i'm a light traveler and probably stays at hotels about 20 times a year.... usually i'll force stays at *wood at the end of the year just to qualify for plat for the next year... but it seems like these free nights won't really do me much good?

also, is it true that even on an awards stay, as long as you incur charges to the room (room service, movie) that the stay will count towards status?

Only you can decide if the reward is worth the effort as far as earning free nights in these promotions.

Award stays - even those with incidental charges - do not count towards re-qualifying for elite status.

Ok.. this promotion is ridiculous/hilarious. I signed up and got the same 'not eligible message'. Instead I was offered a free weekend with 3 nights. I wonder how they make this distinction.

SPG Global Marketing Operations knows who was supposed to get what. If you try to sign up for something you weren't intended to have, you will get re-directed to the one you were intended to have.

*wood made a deal with the Las Vegas Zoo. They have chimpanzees setting in front of computers. Next to each computer is a slot machine. When someone registers for the promotiuon, the chimpanzee yanks the lever on a slot machine. A certain number of bananas appearing on the pay line is interpreted by the chimps and they hit certain keys on the computer....

And maybe even they don't know. Today I got an email from SPG offering Triple Points for stays between now and October 31. When I tried to register it said I wasn't eligible.

No, they know who gets what, but sometimes all this is done before something else happens...perhaps like one account being merged into another one? ;)

I'm pretty sure it was your old account number that qualified you for Triple Starpoints. Now that this account has been merged into a new account number, the database isn't recognizing the new account number as being qualified.

Send me the email you got from us and I'll register the new account for Triple Starpoints.

Thanks William - but right after posting, I looked at the email, and saw I could call and register, so I did that. The big problem with having a new account number (which happened somehow automatically thru Amex) is it is much longer, and I no longer have it memorized.
