Hello, I'm new here. I can't believe it never occurred to me to look for a frequent flyer forum. So glad I found it! @:-)

Here's my issue...I just called Avis to inquire about SkyMiles from a recent rental. I was told my employer forbids the awarding of airline miles. I asked for an explanation and was told it's "probably something in the contrct".

Thing is, I'm a consultant. I wasn't working "for" the company involved, but as a consultant to them. They arranged for flights and autos.

I don't doubt what the Avis rep told me (and she was most polite to boot). I am wondering if this has happened to anyone else. I've been waiting on miles from several Thrifty rentals via the same project...I have a call into them.

I have found that I get hotel points from Avis about 75% of the time. I did find out that they charge you an extra 4% "tax" if you choose Hyatt points. At least this is what I was told by a counter clerk when I asked about all of the taxes on my receipt. I'm not sure if this is correct or if they charge for all other award programs. I'm stuck with Avis as long as my employer uses them exclusively.

Avis does not charge a surcharge for hotel points (at least for Starwood). They do charge extra to take airline miles so some firms will not let you pick miles. Try Starwood. Or call after the rentals as they back post them with no surcharge. I used to call every 6 months and have them post 25-30 rentals at a time. Now I just use Starwood.

It's probably exactly as you were told. My company gives back everything (free days, miles, etc.) to Avis, in exchange for the rock-bottom lowest rates. We get low rates, free insurance, but no miles, no free days, no nothing. All in all...it's a pretty good deal. If I were the company, I'd make the same decision to give up all the perks, in exchange for "real cash" savings.

Thanks, Bob. I just wanted to be sure that what I was told actually happens. From now on, I'll book my own car, even if the client offers to "save me the hassle".

You can get a $38 rate with the contract and no miles, or pay $50 and get 50 miles per day. Great business decision.

I don't get it? What are you talking about? The thread was about airline mileage points, not driving miles. I've never seen any corporate program that does not have unlimited DRIVING miles. Who made the decision that you described above?

I believe the previous post was referring to airline reward miles and not driving miles.

In other words a renter can pay a rate of $38/day w/no extra benefits or pay $50/day and get 50 airline miles/day. The implication is that it is not worth paying the extra $$ to get the somewhat limited reward.

I have a few clients that have "corporate agreements" with a couple of different car rental companies and when working for them I always book my own travel and rarely do the rates differ much from what I can book on my own. In few markets their rates are better and in a few their rates are worse and overall I dont see much of a difference other than the employees dont get miles etc.

Correct.....50 airline miles per day. Hardly worth much.

Has there been a thread on what is paid on our different corporate contracts?
I pay Avis $38/day for full size.
Very curious what others are paying.
