America West FlightFund (Discontinued Program) - Upgrade on NW?

Hi all,

I'm taking a couple NW flights next month and was wondering about a possible upgrade. If memory serves NW will upgrade you on the day of departure (is is midnight or actually at check-in?) if space is available. I am Silver Elite.

Can anyone confirm this is still the policy and if so, what are my chance for an upgrade? I will go going to Hartford (i hate that 7a return on HP).

I wonder if the rest of the FT Community has passed over your post for the same reason I did the first time I read it.....

The only airline you mention is Northwest (NW). I assumed you accidently posted on the wrong forum ... this is America West (HP).

Now I see you "bumping" the post ... which implies you knew it was on the HP Forum :confused:

So maybe I'm mis-interpreting your statement "I am Silver Elite" ....
Are you Worldperks Silver (NW); which I assumed since you only mention NW
Are you FlightFund Silver (HP)
.... it makes a difference.

If you're Worldperks Silver: the NW Forum would be a better place to ask tho I can tell you that their Silvers do qualify for upgrades on NW/CO flights one day out.

If you're FlightFund Silver: No. HP Elite doesn't qualify for NW upgrades

For basic questions like this, you'll find the individual airline's websites to be the best (and quickest) source of info. The vast majority of the Flyer Talk members are ready to offer their interpretation/advice/personal experience involving more complex issues where the websites can be vague/mis-leading. However (speaking for myself), you need to be more specific if you want help and need to first make sure the answer to your question isn't "cut-n-dried" when reading the airline's policies ... there are just too many (often asked over and over again) questions asked in FlyerTalk to answer them all.

Thanks for the reply. I didn't mean to sound like some "rookie" in here but I can see where my post would be confusing. I am HP Silver Elite flying NW metal to BDL next month.

I thought I read in last year's HP Elite Guide that all HP elite's receive space available upgrades on NW (the only partner to offer this). This year I couldn't find anything so that's why I posted in this forum.

After speaking with the elite desk (they were like..."uh?") and your reply, now I know that isn't the case! Oh well, back of the bus it shall be. Heck...I wouldn't have got upgraded anyway on HP being a lowly silver (7/8 times in coach the last six months but the exit row is nice) to BDL.

Check the HP website - I have never flown NW - but I think you can use your HP miles to upgrade. Also check the Northwest site - they may have day of departure upgrades available to purchase.

Perhaps you mean since they don't mention NW upgrades next to upgrades on HP and HP Express then it's not an option?

I also recall hearing I would have my HP elite status considered by NW, but I was unsure if that just meant courtesy pre-board.

You are mistaken.

I can assure you there are NO upgrade benefits for FlightFund members (Elite or otherwise) flying on Northwest Airlines. Northwest provides no additional or special benefits to FlightFund Elite members.

No upgrade, no preboard, no First Class checkin.

Yes. FF members earn miles on NW flights outside of the United States. The relationship between the two is VERY limited, with only 4 flights codeshared.

OMG. I definitley didn't realize that HP members do not receive credit when flying NW WITHIN the U.S. Only carefully reading the rules did I catch FROM the U.S. to any of the following destinations...
