California - Best place for lunch SFO Int'l Terminal?View Full Version : Best place for lunch SFO Int'l Terminal? oskidunker Jul 26, 04, 10:55 am After security is cleared, maybe somewhere near gate 96. Thanks sftrvlr Jul 26, 04, 12:44 pm After security is cleared, maybe somewhere near gate 96. Thanks The UA international F lounge ... for free! I'm never in the terminal long enough to really know, but I've seen a Mexican restaurant and a Japanese restaurant on the left as you walk down the terminal. SoFlyOn Jul 26, 04, 1:36 pm I would recommend the Japanese restaurant Ebisu, which is directly outside of the secure area. It's a branch of the perenially highly-rated restaurant of the same name in SF, at 9th and Irving. Security screening has always been fast for me in the International terminal, and all the gates are only a short walk. Even if you are able to catch the transit shuttle from the domestic secure area, there's no reason not to leave the secure area in the International terminal. John UNITED959 Jul 26, 04, 2:21 pm Either the Japanese or Mexican place (La Salsa, I think?) are good. Much better than the over-priced fast food selections or the Crap Pot in the UA domestic terminal. Uuuhhh! Boraxo Jul 26, 04, 2:37 pm Either the Japanese or Mexican place (La Salsa, I think?) are good. Much better than the over-priced fast food selections or the Crap Pot in the UA domestic terminal. Uuuhhh! The Mexican place is called Andale, and serves the same great food as their original location in SF's Marina neighborhood. Ibisu (from SF's Inner Sunset district) is also good but a lot more $$$. SFOTRAVELER Jul 26, 04, 3:01 pm ...check the menu at the FIREWOOD CAFE, which has wonderful roasted chicken, pasta dishes, big salads with shredded chicken (and your choice from like 15 toppings) and great thin pizzas. There are a couple of other locations in SF (Castro, Sony Metreon)...filling, healthy, and always realiably delicious. braslvr Jul 26, 04, 3:07 pm I'll second the vote for Andale. Best food by far in the entire airport IMO. I wish I could access it during my domestic connections. :( SFOakIad Jul 26, 04, 3:14 pm ...check the menu at the FIREWOOD CAFE, which has wonderful roasted chicken, pasta dishes, big salads with shredded chicken (and your choice from like 15 toppings) and great thin pizzas. Firewood is certainly a nice option for airport food -- however, when we ate there Friday night while seeing our friend off on the new NZ non-stop to Auckland, to Mrs. SFOakIAD's dismay the pizza was not on the menu. Don't know if that's usual or not. oontiveros Jul 26, 04, 3:57 pm I third Andale. I was surprised (having never eaten at any Andale restaurant prior) at how good the food was. I always try to grab a bite there when in SFO. RobotDoctor Jul 26, 04, 4:04 pm UA Domestic terminal offerings are not very good, IMO. JohnnyP Jul 26, 04, 4:30 pm UA Domestic terminal offerings are not very good, IMO. I would agree with that with two exceptions: I enjoy picking up a Jamba Juice when I'm on a quick layover. And the fast-food Japanese place in the same food court is a quick place to pick up some sushi to eat on the plane. RichardInSF Jul 26, 04, 5:20 pm Andale Taqueria started in Palo Alto, I am pretty sure, but now has SF and Los Gatos stores as well. Due to all the security restrictions (e.g., probably no butcher knives allowed to the chefs inside security, if there are chefs), I see that a lot of the good stuff on the menu elsewhere isn't on the menu in the G concourse, but it certainly is a true local mini-chain and well worth considering if the airport place is even half as good as their other restaurants, especially compared with what is normally available on concourses! couscous Jul 26, 04, 8:41 pm My vote goes to the Sushi place... Always a stop for me. ^ squeakr Jul 26, 04, 8:45 pm as this has not a lot to do w/ UAL specifically I am moving it to Local Talk - SFO/OAK airports thanks squeakr MO UAL shekie Jul 27, 04, 6:18 pm I would agree with that with two exceptions: I enjoy picking up a Jamba Juice when I'm on a quick layover. And the fast-food Japanese place in the same food court is a quick place to pick up some sushi to eat on the plane. I believe that would be Sanraku. They also have a decent location at the Metreon and a more enjoyable one on Sutter at Taylor. As for the food in the international terminal, "Burger Joint", while not as fun as the Mission location, does make a great burger <grin>. If you visit... http://www.flysfo.com/guide_nonflash/index.html and select "food and beverage" you can get a list of what is available at SFO, as well as roughly where everything is. |
