Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - "SSSS" on CX issued boarding passes?

After reading some of the treads in the other forums, it seems like that it is only U.S. carriers who would print "SSSS" or "CLR" on boarding passes.

With SSSS meaning that one would need additional security screening.

For CX flights that depart from the U.S., does CX print SSSS or CLR on their boarding passes? I remember flying CX from JFK and SFO and the boarding pass never had those messages pritned on them. Or are foreign carriers such CX exempt from SSSS?

Also, if CX issued a boarding pass for a connecting AA flight, does this mean that AA would always have to re-print the boarding pass because it might not already have the SSSS or CLR?

dainiellam, why on earth do you ask the most inane questions?

There is no extra security checks on CX flights. You're departing from international anyway..

Yes, only US carriers have those "SSSS" extra security warnings on their boarding passes. The foreign airlines are smart enough not to join in on this fiasco. (Thank God).

Currently at last count CX stil cannot issue ongoing boarding passes for flights onward CX ports of call. So you'd find out if you'll have your "SSS" on your boarding pass when you get it issued at the US port. Generally if you don't book within 24 hours of travelling, you might be spared that.

Interestingly, if you fly in Japan Domestic routes, and you have "SSSS", it means you are the TOP VIP for ANA/JAL. It's funny how of all the symbols you can choose from, the same symbol means totally opposite things in different parts of the world.

I know, it's unrelated... just for those interested.

This is actually NOT TRUE.
I travelled from HKG-AKL-MEL-SYD
and CX was able to give me my boarding pass for both the AKL sector and the MEL sector. They can't check into SYD as I need to clear security in MEL and due to Australia does not have the same facilities as the USA (you can't bag drop straight away after customs) therefore I need to recheck @ MEL. But I got 2 Boarding pass in HKG (All printed on CX's Stock).

I'm sorry... but what has this got to do with "SSSS" in the USA?

Through bag check is permitted via international ports. It is up to various airline agreements as to whether they want to issue boarding passes onwards to domestic destinations. Why did you do such a convoluted run home anyway.. unless you're doing a Mileage Run? ;)

It's better to go through MEL than SYD when transitting in Australia as MEL terminals are grouped in one facility whereas other airports require a bus ride and a terminal change.

Then why do they do random searches on the jetbridges on every HKG-LAX flight I have been on in the last couple of years? I'd consider this an extra security check.

Really? I flew HKG-CX-SIN-BA-LHR recently and while my bags were checked through to London, I was told to collect my BPs for the BA sector at the lounge in SIN.

CDG is terrible. I lost my baggage there twice!
I think CX actually recommend you collect your bags @ CDG and re-check it again as the whole baggage handling procedure is just terrible!

Actually that time was a BA flight (LHR-CDG) and also (CDG-LHR-FCO).

But I also lost my baggage once from just JFK-BOS!

That's not true.

I was hit with "SSSS" designation on my BP for my last BA flight from BOS-LHR in F in June. It was a one-way booking, which I suspect was the reason. I was bummed because I went to the airport 30 minutes early to try and watch the Belmont Stakes which I would have missed due the SSSS clearance.

This turned out to irrelevant as the wimpy TV reception in the BA F lounge only gets a few channels, none of which carried the Belmont (NBC).

But, at least BA does this extra security screening for suspicious passengers like me.

Agreed - CAPS is not an option if you plan to enplane PAX in the US

Nope. Many times, I've been issued the JFK-BOS boarding pass in HK for same-day connections. I've even been able to use it to enter the secure area and get on the plane. My miles even posted, too.

I also get all three BP's when flying HKG-LAX-ORD-GRR - the AA people STILL do a triple take at a CX Red BP -

That's good to know.

My last flight HKG-NRT-LAX on CX/AA, offered a different scenario. CX couldn't print the AA flights beyond NRT.

Where would this SSSS be located on a BP?

Bottom right.

Can't miss it, 'cause they highlight it in a bright yellow marker and then put all sorts of whistles and bells on it.
