My friend is getting married in St Thomas next April. The wedding is at the Marriott Frenchman Reef. I usually prefer starwood properties but the Westin is on St John. Any suggestion of things to do? Places to stay? Would love to know your thoughts. Thanks in advance!

Go to St. John and the Westin. Get off of St. Thomas.
You will love the slow pace of St. John.

The Ritz Carlton is nice and is away from the hustle and bustle. You could stay there. Otherwise, yes, St. John is a much nicer island.

I had friends who stayed at the Ritz Carlton and really liked it.

St. Thomas was my home away from home for about 3 years and I agree St. John is much better, but.... if you need to stay on St. Thomas at a reasonable price, I'd suggest the Best Western Emerald Beach. It has a great beach and the rooms are nice and reasonable. As for places to go...

Nice - Craig & Sally's, Old Stone Farmhouse
Moderate - Hook, Line & Sinker in Frenchtown, Sibs
Funky local - Fungi's, Cuzzin's
Cafe Amici downtown has good pizza - mostly a lunch place I think...
Brunch - Molly's in Red Hook - have brunch before you catch the ferry over to St. John. They have unlimited mimosa's with your meal!!
Bars - have to check out Iggy's at Bolongo, and Duffy's Love Shack. The Shipwreck is big for locals, and has EXCELLENT hamburgers. Sometimes you can catch a good band at the Hard Rock or Offshore.
Catch the sunset at Paradise point - take the tram up to the top of the mountain. Nice bar up there.
Best Beach - Magen's - best hamburgers at the beach bar there!
Of course the real "best beaches" are on St. John. Spend the $3.00 to go over on the ferry for a day trip and hit the beach there! There are plenty of "safari busses" that will take you to the best ones.
Have a great trip!

The Ritz-Carlton is ok, but not on line service-wise with the other RC's - do not get a bottom floor room - they are literally basement with the base of bushes in front of the balcony & no view - you want a high (2nd or 3rd story) room as far to the right of check-in as possible. Beautiful pool.
St. Thomas is ok - not what you expect, but ok. The Love Shack in a parking lot past the R-C can be fun. St. John's is alot nicer.

There's a little straw shack right on the beach at Coki beach. They make the best damn banana daquiris in the world. A friend of mine ;) suggests that like breasts and/or martinis, one is not enough and three is too many. :D Coki beach is beautiful and has great snorkeling, but even if it did not, it's still worth a trip to Coki beach just for the daquiris.
