Hilton HHonors - Hilton Nuremberg HotelView Full Version : Hilton Nuremberg Hotel seawolf Aug 2, 03, 12:03 pm Couldn't find anything in the archives. xyzzy Aug 2, 03, 9:18 pm I don't know much about the hotel. Some info is here: http://www.discountberlinhotels.com/nuernberg/hilton-nurenberg.htm While in Nuremburg it might be interesting to visit the Zeppelin Field (http://www.nuernberg.de/tourismus/rundgaenge/reichsparteitagsgelaende_e/e_z_tribuene.html) I found it to be a rather moving experience. more info here (http://www.scrapbookpages.com/WesternGermany/Nurnberg/Nurnberg04.html). Smash Aug 3, 03, 5:35 am Stayed there a couple of times last year. Its a nice (former Scandic), well run property. Rooms are pretty new. Got a Business Room as Gold on the lowest rate. No Exec lounge/floor. They let me sign for breakfast, but it was removed (after I told them it should be free) from my bill at check-out. Located at the border of the city, close to the autobahn, it is pretty much away from everything. So if you plan to visit the city, you will need a car/taxi. Free parking on front of the hotel. Anything specific you need to know? NJUPINTHEAIR Aug 3, 03, 8:11 am Correction: Former Scandic owned Holiday Inn like Innsbruck, Vienna Danube, London Docklands and Netherlands Royal Park, as well as perhaps Bremen and others. ernie8575 May 16, 04, 9:12 am Tried to find out info on the Nurnberg Hilton but found nothing doing a search. Am a Diamond and staying there soon. Is there anything I should know or expect there as I understand it is a converted Holiday Inn. Thanks in advance for the info. Smash May 16, 04, 10:59 am http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=130330 "Nürnberg" seems to have a couple of different spellings in english ;) . While searching, I found Nuremberg (which is the correct one), Nuernberg (which is the correct german spelling if no "ü" is available), Nurnberg and Nuremburg. perkythedog May 17, 04, 10:19 am Have stayed there twice, as Diamond got room 222 which seems to be the second biggest room they have. No Executive level, just fruit in room. Quite new and close to where my business is, not in downtown area, about 10-15 Euro taxi ride away Internaut Jul 25, 04, 12:30 pm Does anyone here have anything to comment on this place in terms of location and facilities? I can get a better rate there than the usual three star place my employer normally books for me and its location (near the Congress Hall/Documentation Museum if I'm not mistaken) looks okay for my daily commute to the office. UpgradeMe Jul 25, 04, 2:08 pm Done a search? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=321709&highlight=nuremburg http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=130330&highlight=nuremburg http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=131370&highlight=nuremberg Internaut Jul 26, 04, 6:17 am Cool. I should have thought of that so thanks! The threads confirm what I suspected and the place has some good rates for August. kaottic97 Jul 26, 04, 9:10 pm The archives do a good job of summarizing the hotel. I stayed there in March and I thought it was a good way of spending 10,000 points. The breakfast was great. The European Hiltons offer so much more than the US Hiltons, it seems. gmax58 Sep 9, 07, 1:57 pm Presently at the Hilton Nuremberg (just checked in). Fairly disappointed in what was offered, but this is my first time at a Hilton as a Gold, so it would be useful to get feedback. As noted before, no exec floor, but I was given a room on the 3rd floor (it looks like the hotel has only three floors). Room is small but nicely setup in terms of appearance. Only two pillows on king bed. Two bottles of water present in the room, plus a small letter, nothing else. Breakfast is not complimentary (18 Euros/day), nor is wireless (13 Euros/day). The location is better suited to cars than to public transit - it's 1 km (0.6 miles) from the Frankenstadion stop, and it's about 20-25 minutes by foot from the Congress Center (and that's if you don't get yourself lost, which is really easy to do - it took me 1 hour the first day). Edit: Additional information... The breakfast is complimentary to Golds and Diamonds, and they do offer room upgrades as well; however, they had me in as a Blue member prior to the stay, and I was quite satisfied with the room (it was small but certainly workable for a single person). Very comfortable (firm) bed - didn't wake up in the middle of the night as I often do on stays outside my hometown. Gold amenity: 3 small chocolates, plus two pieces of fruit. I really liked the chocolates, but the fruit was really, really cold. Breakfast was quite comprehensive - 6 types of cereal, 6 breads, multiple breakfast rolls, 5 or 6 types of jams, smoked salmon, three types of cold sausages, several types of crossiants, fruit, at least 5 types of yogurt, and multiple hot dishes (bacon, eggs, potatoes, baked beans, Nuremberg sausages...) No dedicated concierge desk, as far as I can tell, which made asking for information on the morning of check-out a bit complex (6 or 7 people and 2 front desk staff). Overall: a B, in my book, with the only knocks being the location (not very convenient for me) and the high cost of the wireless. Service quite good, and food solid as well. hann Sep 10, 07, 2:03 am Breakfast is not complimentary (18 Euros/day) Did you ask, if it's free for you as a Gold? Most german properties without Executive lounge offer complimentary breakfast for Gold's. gmax58 Sep 10, 07, 2:47 pm I've updated this thread with the last few days, along with my final impressions of the place. kathiel Oct 12, 07, 4:20 pm Just stayed here twice while in Germany, used it as a stop between my destinations. No breakfast for Diamonds if on a reward stay. Told at the desk both times, response: nothing if you are using points. When I complained a bit that every other property in the country and in Austria had given me breakfast with a reward stay, she shrugged. 15 minutes later a bottle of wine and stale snacks were sent up to the room. I guess that's the best you can expect there. Loved Germany but they can stuff this Hilton. Rambuster Oct 13, 07, 5:40 am Got upgraded to a room on the third floor which was quite nice, no breakfast vouchers offered but I didn't ask. Unfortunatley during the night when going to the bathroom I tripped over my bag and fell onto the small desk next to the bed and seriously banged my head. The emergency room is luckally only 5 mins from the Hilton so I got stiched up in no time and can now cure my concussion! SkyTeam777 Nov 11, 07, 10:36 am Trying to decide between this property and the Meridien as a SPG Platinum and as a Hilton Diamond...sounds like the Meridien offers more bang for the buck as a top-level member. Which is more convenient to the Christmas markets, does anyone know? mapu Nov 29, 07, 12:48 pm Trying to decide between this property and the Meridien as a SPG Platinum and as a Hilton Diamond...sounds like the Meridien offers more bang for the buck as a top-level member. Which is more convenient to the Christmas markets, does anyone know? The Le Meridien is in the city center (where the Christmas market is) while the Hilton is on the outskirts of town. Rambuster Nov 29, 07, 3:24 pm The NUE Hilton is on the outskirts as mentioned before right next to the training grounds of FC Nuernberg soccer team. Usually you can watch the soccer player during training from your room in the mornings. sorro Nov 30, 07, 7:57 am I stayed here on a reward stay in August. They offered me a room upgrade, but when I asked about breakfast they said that I could either have the upgraded room or breakfast. I chose to get breakfast over the upgrade to save 36 euros. They were pleasant rooms, nothing different from any other Hilton in Germany. The staff was friendly and they had free parking (which was nice because we did have a car). It's close to the old Nazi parade grounds and a subway stop, so you can see some history and take the train into town pretty easily. I'd definitely stay here again - at 10000 points, it's a bargain. SkyTeam777 Dec 2, 07, 10:23 am Can anyone confirm that no breakfast is offered on an award stay here? Ive never experienced that before and should hope that as a Diamond they do something to provide a nice experience. Also, do they have a shuttle to the city center? gaugeguy Dec 2, 07, 8:09 pm I stayed at this property about a year ago right before christmas. The rooms were nothing special but they left a small bottle of wine and some fruit with a welcome letter from the manager. Breakfast was free with the award stay. I like this hotel but they don't have an executive floor or lounge and since the point rate for awards have doubled, It doesn't make it as appealing. sorro Dec 3, 07, 8:18 am Can anyone confirm that no breakfast is offered on an award stay here? Ive never experienced that before and should hope that as a Diamond they do something to provide a nice experience. Also, do they have a shuttle to the city center? If you have status you can reject the upgrade to get breakfast for free. At this property they told me it was one or the other at check-in. Make sure you ask though, or else they'll give you the upgrade and you'll have to pay for breakfast instead. There was no shuttle into the city center. You could walk to the S-Bahn station or drive there. ernie8575 Dec 3, 07, 9:24 am There also is a bus stop across the street from the hotel so you can take the bus downtown also. We have been given breakfast there as Diamonds and we last stayed there in Oct this year. Also put in a nice room on the third floor with a welcome amenity in the room for us with a note welcoming us back. SkyTeam777 Dec 3, 07, 12:18 pm What would the upgrades be anyway if there is no exec floor and it seems there are few suites? We would prefer to have two free breakfasts than a so-called room upgrade anyway! How far is it to the bus stop nearby and how long does it take to get to the Christmas markets...any ideas? Thanks everyone! dabee69 Dec 4, 07, 9:52 am What would the upgrades be anyway if there is no exec floor and it seems there are few suites? We would prefer to have two free breakfasts than a so-called room upgrade anyway! How far is it to the bus stop nearby and how long does it take to get to the Christmas markets...any ideas? Thanks everyone! I got a very large suite above the hotel entrance overlooking the fountain July 2007. I would assume that is the best room per floor. I didn't ask and didn't get breakfast vouchers. There were a lot of baskets with apples around :D FRA, BER, VIE, MUC and some others would be before NUE on my Christmas market preference list. Hilton FRA is also much nicer and better located than Hilton NUE. Hilton in NUE does not have lounge, Hilton FRA has an extraordinarily located but very well stocked executive lounge. I am flying my family to FRA over the next weekend for Christmas market. I was able to book confirmed Hilton FRA Exec room for an award stay @:-) SkyTeam777 Dec 4, 07, 10:57 am FRA, BER, VIE, MUC and some others would be before NUE on my Christmas market preference list. I thought Nuremberg was Germany's oldest and one of the largest markets?! What is the name of the train station closest to the Hilton NUE...hopping a train from FRA and want to end up as close as possible. Didi Jun 1, 08, 12:44 pm I thought Nuremberg was Germany's oldest and one of the largest markets?! What is the name of the train station closest to the Hilton NUE...hopping a train from FRA and want to end up as close as possible. The name of the trainstation is Nürnberg Frankenstadion. That's five stations after Nürnberg Hbf (i.e. after Nurembergs main station). The S2 will bring you there every half hour. The bus, on the other hand, is the number 44. It runs about every 20 minutes on weekends. Was there last night. Got an upgrade to a deluxe king side plus (large room), two breakfast vouchers and welcome amenities (i.e. the personal welcome letter, water, fruits, chips and nachos). All in all I would say good value for money. And the staff were very friendly and professional ^ Would highly recommend this hotel! kathiel Jun 7, 08, 4:02 pm Can anyone confirm that no breakfast is offered on an award stay here? Ive never experienced that before and should hope that as a Diamond they do something to provide a nice experience. Also, do they have a shuttle to the city center? No shuttle and as a Diamond on an award stay four times in the last two years: No breakfast, no upgrade and sometimes no electricity (they trip the circuit breaker quickly though). Friendly Traveling Deathmerchant Jun 16, 08, 12:38 pm This place has a really, really good local-style breakfast, tons of salmon, nuts, grains, fresh breads... very rustic, or you can order American style breakfast fresh-made. It's a bit of a long walking hike from the Messe, if you're going to a convention center gig - I stayed here for a week for an event at the Messe, and it was actually a hassle - no free shuttle, and those euro-exchange cab rides twice a day back and forth kinda got lame quickly. I'd stay on the train line up in town if I were to do it again, and zoom down to the Messe, getting off at the stop right there at the convention center. There's really nothing to eat around the hotel, it's sort of off by itself (other than a Burger King across the street). Very quiet neighborhood, too quiet for me. Rooms nice, clean, beds good, but no free wi-fi for Diamonds or Golds - not even a free business center computer - which was not cool in my book - with the exchange rate, it was stupid-expensive for internet. All staff: Desk, breakfast, etc. helpful, pro, and fluent in English. MacDaddie Jul 6, 08, 3:02 am I also recently spent a night here and I'd say that the rooms are clean and quiet. As a Diamond member I received breakfast and it was pretty good. There was a large selection of breakfast items. The gym is rather poor, it has some treadmills but no weights. Just as an fyi the hotel was very difficult for me to find, I had printed out directions from a german map webpage but the directions were bad. Hotel is definately not conveniant to much of anything other than Nuremburg FC. As a stop over during a trip hotel is decent if you can get a cheap price. coastda Dec 6, 08, 1:15 pm Just spent two nights there on a mileage run. As Diamond I received a modest upgrade and full breakfast, also a special bottle of wine, sausage and fruit delivered to my room. It is a bit out on Bus Line 44 but that is a direct shot to the HaupbBanhof. A nice stay. servus Mar 22, 09, 3:10 pm I'm staying at the Hilton Nuremberg next weekend. Any recent experiences? Rasalon Mar 23, 09, 8:55 am I just stayed there for three weeks in February. The rooms are clean and decent, nothing exceptional. I was told I was given a "recently renovated upgraded room", but it was the same room type as when I stayed there in 2006, still with the 19" CRT TV. Breakfast, as usual, is great. Internet, as with all European hotels, is still quite expensive (68 Euro a week). servus Mar 29, 09, 8:01 am Just returned from the Hilton Nuremberg (Nürnberg) (HHonors Category 3), Valznerweiherstrasse 200, 90480 Nürnberg, Tel: 49-911-40290, Fax: 49-911-4029666, email: info.nuremberg@hilton.com The hotel is located in the middle of nowhere. If you are arriving by car, it’s very easy to find: A3, A6, B4, two turns and you are there. If you are using public transportation, the hotel can be reached by bus line 44 from Nuremberg Hauptbahnhof. The bus stop is right in front of the hotel. Valet parking was n/a. There are a lot of free parking spaces right in front of the hotel. The hotel has a Sixt rental station on site. Check-in was efficient and OK. All my room-preferences set in my profile were honored. Received what I booked, a Hilton Guest Room on 2nd floor facing the soccer field. No word about my HHonors status. As this hotel does not have an Executive Floor and breakfast was included in my rate, I set my on site VIP benefit to 1,000 bonus points and didn’t ask for anything else. Baggage assistance wasn’t offered. In my room there was a personal welcome note from the GM and two bottles of complimentary Apollinaris water. The room was clean, kind of dark and still has the old Hilton decor, with A/C, WiFi (17.00 € for 24h, other options avail.), a working desk, an old CRT TV, iron, ironing-board and the new Hilton clock. Be aware, the pillows are very small, soft and uncomfortable. The minibar was stocked with: orange juice, apple juice, Coke, Diet Coke, Coke Zero, Sprite, Bitter Lemon, Tonic Water, Evian water 3.50 €, mineral water (sparkling / non-sparkling) 3.00 €, Red Bull 4.50 €, Beer 3.50 €, Heinecken 3.75 €, white wine (0.2 l), red wine (0.2 l) 7.50 €, Hilton Sparkling Wine (0.2 l) 6.50 €, Vodka, Gin, Whiskey, Martini, Rum 6.50 €, Cognac 7.00 €. The bathroom was clean, with a tub and the usual amenities. Checked out their pool (opening hours: 06:30 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.) and sauna (03:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.) which was OK. Not many chairs to lie on but there were only two kids in the pool. We went downstairs to find out the L’Olivia restaurant (opening hours: 07.00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. / weekend and holidays until 11:00 p.m.) was closed, so we went over to the Magic Lounge (opening hours: daily from 10:00 a.m.). The lounge was nice and the staff was very friendly. If you’re there, ask for Lisa, she’ll go the extra mile for you. There were only 12 - 15 other guests in the lounge while we were there. The menue is good with a variety of: salad, steak (from 14.00 €), side dished (from 3.00 €), sauces (from 2.00 €), veal, pork, poultry and fish. Also they had a prefixed menue: Tomato soup with balsamico sauce, black angus steak with vegetable and baked potato, vanilla ice cream with hot raspberries (27.00 €). The wine selection was moderate and included German and international wines (average price per bottle between 25.00-35.00 €. The quality of the food was OK but nothing to be wild about. Next morning we had breakfast at the L’Olivia restaurant (19.00 € per person if not incl. in your room rate). The variety was as usual: six different cereals, fresh fruits (apples, kiwi, oranges), yoghurt, toast, bread, French Rolls, cheese, meat, butter, magarine, honey, marmalade, Nutella, hard / soft boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, sausages, bacon, baked beans, mushrooms, orange juice, tomato juice, apple juice, multi-vitamin-juice, grapefruit juice, milk, low-fat milk, coffee, tea and water. You also could order pancakes, waffles, porridge and French Toast. However the quality was so-so. Check-out was fast, friendly and accurate. Final notes: When we came back from dinner to our room around 11:00 p.m. we heard the kids of other guests running up and down the hallway, yelling, slamming doors over and over again until 01:00 a.m. This also started again at 07:00 a.m. the next morning. As front desk told me, other guests also complained about the noise and these guests have been asked to check-out a.s.a.p. after not settling down as they have been asked to by the manager on duty. However tolerating at least two hours of extrem noise is just too much. So, altogether if you have to stay at a Hilton property in this area, this hotel will be OK for a short stay. If you have a choice between this Hilton and other hotels, go for the other option. I dropped their guest comments card at check-out, but actually even don’t expect a reply. I’ll not return. As I predicted I haven't heard back from the hotel. It shows once more how the GM cares about his customers. Consider this before you book a stay at this hotel. ***pictures available upon request*** |
