Yeay... I'm back.
Hi-
Well, I am here to type to you about my vacation to Los Angeles from 7-17 to 7-21. It started out on the 16th when my flight from Newark to Chicago (643) was cancelled due to ATC problems the day before in Chicago. So I had the flight rebooked. Little did I know that the upgrades got messed up. So I arrive at the airport for UA flight 641 (EWR-ORD,) and I am told that the upgrades are not available... the person who upgraded me needs to sign. Ok- I did not know that, nor did I receive any notice from the United Reservations agents that I talked to for over a total of 2 hours that the person that upgraded me needs to sign the upgrade.

So after the hard time from the Ticketing Counter Agent and the Gate Agent, I flew Economy plus. I arrived at Chicago with a 5-6 hour layover because that was the only way to get flight 125 to LAX on the 747, since my original flight was cancelled. I spend 2 of those hours waiting on the Customer Service Line in Concourse C- and most of the time on the cell phone talking to my sister who was going back and forth between me and my friend who upgraded me. It turned out that not only did my friend go to the airport the day before to sign over the upgrade, but in the process of the rebooking, the upgrades were lost. My friend called me and then talked to the United Customer Service Agent, and he was able to pull up the history and find that my friend did in fact come into the airport to sign the upgrade. I was so relieved... and that was it... on my way to LAX. What a great machine the 747-400 is. I was soo happy, my first time flying in Business or First class, and it was also my first 747 flight. So we get into LAX about 30 minutes late because of our late departure... there was a problem starting the engines at the gate because of the power or something. I left out of gate C18 out of ORD.

Get into LAX... get the rental car. My dad and I rented with Payless Car Rental. We have rented before and were happy with them but not at the LAX location. Wow what a mistake. Our car class was for a premium car- Chrysler Pacifica. We got that car. They came out with a black one that had a problem with the key, so they gave us a gold one that was fine. It was a great car. We get back on the 21st to drop the car off, and they overcharge my dad $100 for gas, for the car that we never even got into with the broken key. My dad went crazy... and the LAX location of Payless handled the situation very irresponsibly. My dad is still, today (22) trying to get through to them. We called them before we boarded the original flight (I will get into this later,) during our connection in IAD, when we landed, when we got home, and when my dad was at work today. The central office for Payless gave us 4 numbers to call, and all of them kept ringing. This was soo irresponsible and I am going to write a complaint e-mail.

So anyway, while in LAX, my dad and I did some spotting at LAX, drove to Mojave and Victorville in one day!!!!! Ohh by the way, 3 United 747-400s were being returned to service in Victorville:) YEAY...

We stayed at the Ramada Inn Plaza Hotel LAX South. It was ok- there were ants in the room. I left a can of soda open, and they were all over... I would say about 30 ants in around and on the table it was on. They were also in the bathroom:(
Okay so on the 21st when leaving, I had no problem my dad and I flew United 946 (777) from LAX-IAD. It was a great flight- Business Class and everything. They served cookies:):). That flight went great. Then United Express- ACA flight 7378 back home to Newark.

It was overall a great trip... what do you guys think I should do about the hotel and car...??
United has a new loyal flyer:) Especially since the fact that I asked for plastic wrap or a small container for the cookie on flight 946, and the fa gave me an extra cookie. That just made me sooo happy. LOL... Little things that count:)

Glad the UA stuff eventually worked out & you enjoyed the 747.

Re: Payless, at this point I'd write the CEO. S/he won't respond personally but you'll probably get a faster response than trying to work your way up; you can also challenge part of the charges on the c.c.

Re: Ramada. I would have had my room switched while I was still there. I'd still write a letter to the hotel mgr & perhaps to corporate. Not cool. I'm not sure I'd want a come stay with us again for free response though if they don't fix the ant problem ;)

Cheers. Sharon...

Thanks Sharon... should I expect anything from Payless- in regards to something free?

Well I'd settle for getting the overcharges off the bill. If they're cust-service related, they might give you something. If you want the overcharges removed AND something free, then ask (politely) for whatever you think is fair.

The key to writing any airline, hotel, car rental, is to be polite but firm, let them know the good as well as the bad, & not throw a hissy fit & say they're the scum of the earth & you'll never stay, fly, rent from them again.

Cheers. Sharon...
