The Caribbean - Trinidad/Guyana

I'm flying to Trinidad in a few weeks on a good fare, decided to check out if I could do some country-hopping (add a few more to the 'visited' list )while down there. I can do a POS-BGI-GEO-POS for $192 same-day, with ~2 hr layovers in BGI and GEO, another option is POS-GEO-POS turnaround (40 minutes in GEO). Would that be long enough in Georgetown to do the turnaround, or is 2 hrs a safer bet? The flight arrives back into POS at 9 or 11:30, any problems getting into town cheaply this late?

Hi Hauteboy, all depends on how you want to log those 'visited countries'. The airport in Guyana is a least an hour by taxi from Georgetown, so all you would do is land. clear customs, buy some excellent El Dorado 15 Year old rum and get back on the plane.
Bridgetown is a shorter drive but again by the time you have cleared Customs you'll be back in the check in line.
International travel requires a 2-3 hour check in now anyway. So you should let the airline know up front so their ground staff can expedite your transit.
As for a taxi into Port of Spain at night - the Airport Taxi rate is US$26 before 11pm and after 11pm a 50% surcharge is added.
have a good trip.

Thanks for the info! My original plan wasn't to leave the airports, just 'touching down' in those countries count as a visit. But now the price on the POS-GEO fare has gone up I'm not likely to do this. I may instead do the puddlejumper flight to SVD/BGI/GND, or just spend all the time in Trinidad. :) Are there recommended things to do/see in Trinidad for a ~24 hr stay? I'll be staying in the Trinidad Hilton on August 21st.

Hmmm....24 hrs on a Saturday. Depends on what you want. Have a glance at www.trinidiary.com and www.visittnt.com for some ideas. You could do the Asa Wright Nature Centre and the Caroni Bird Sanctuary if you are into nature. The downtown area is an easy walk from the Hilton and could use up half a day.
