As a CP, how tough would it be to upgrade PIT-SFO-PIT departing on a Thursday night and returning on the 1st flight Sunday morning? Equipment in both directions is an A320. I'm not keen about throwing down 20,000 miles since the first flight doesn't have a meal...

I need some responses quick because i've got a good fare on hold...
thanks.

Did it last Thursday, returning Friday CLT>SFO>CLT outbound I didn't get it (first flight out) and return I got it (also first flight out).

Thursday will be slim......Sunday you'll be OK.

It's been a few years since I did it regularly, but Thursday night/Friday afternoon used to be the worst segment on the entire airline for upgrades. I had maybe 15-20% success rate over a 2 year period, every week.

Sunday early should be OK. Be sure to check in on line at 24 hrs. just in case.

I have to agree. Thursday/Friday evening flights are the worst for upgrades. Sometimes they'll even ask only Chairman's Preferred to priority board since so many Preferreds are on the flights at those times.

My Friday afternoon flights were all 757/321's and I still only was successful 15-20%.

Even LAX over the last 16 months has been 70-80% successful. SFO is just the worst.

I did SFO for a couple of years. As a CP.

Outbound on Sunday night was a tough upgrade. Monday morning hopeless. Early Sunday was reasonable.

Thursday was a tough return. Friday wasn't too awfully bad if you went with the crack of dawn flight.

Tuesday and Wednesday mornings were consistently upgradeable no matter which way I was going ;)

I've made it as a GP on Friday morning and Saturday and have failed to get it on a Sunday red-eye and a Monday morning. On both of those flights I know that some CPs didn't clear either. I always pick 321s, because that is my only chance to clear.
