US Airways Dividend Miles (Pre-FlightFund Merger) - Redeeming mile awards

How far in advance should one redeem mile awards for a ticket? Can one do this efficiently over the internet?
I am reading threads where most people seem to do it by calling the Dividend Miles Center (DM Ctr), is that correct? Since I am not able to call 800 numbers easily from Germany I do most of my business on line. If anyone out there is a FF internationally is there a number here in Deutschland that one can call for help with US Air?

It really depends on the route and class of service that you would like to redeem your miles for. You can certainly redeem online (as well as simply search for availability), but this will only allow you to book flights on US Airways aircraft, not codeshares with other airlines such as United and Lufthansa.
The Dividend Miles service centre will not book award travel for you. One would only call the SC in order to register for a promotion, claim missing miles, change an address, etc etc.
I would recommend contacting US Airways Reservations in Germany and they should be able to help you out with your award reservation.

I don't know about travel from Germany, but at least for travel from the US, you can get FF tickets at usairways.com. Choose "sort by price" instead of by schedule, and there should be a "Use Dividend Miles" option at the bottom, after the very most expensive fares.
Hope it works for you.
in peace,
Michael

US reservations number in Germany is 0 180 300 0609. (From www.usairways.co.uk which lists all the European res numbers on its homepage).
I've not tried booking award tickets online, but have booked paid tickets through usairways.com a couple of times. There's not been a problem having them sent to the UK. (The crazy thing is the website has insisted on issuing paper tickets on both occasions, but if you book direct with US by phone you get e-tickets.)

Ahhh. This helps a great deal. If I have a real person to ask questions, then I feel a bit more secure. You see, I have never done this before, used my FF miles. I know once I learn the process I will gain confidence.
Thanks for this info.
