Is it my imagination or are the fares higher on the newer jets like the Airbus A330-300, (US Air's 333)?

It's not your imagination, but not for the reason you imply.

Generally, US uses 330's on their higher yield routes and 767's on lower revenue city pairs. For example, PHL-FCO has a 330 all the time. Fares usually remain high on this route and it is one of the hardest on which to find award tickets. PHL-MAD has a 330 in the summer and a 767 in the winter. A better match to the market.

MAN is one of their most profitable routes with lots of sold C tickets (with corporate discounts) and cargo. They see 330's whereas CDG might have a combination of equipment.

You're not necessarily paying more for newer equipment. It just seems that way. ;)

I fly DCA BCN every month of the year. From Oct to April it is a 767 and yes it is cheaper during that time. But it is not due to the aircraft. It is due to the fact that it is not peak season. May to Sept they use the 330 on this route because it holds more people and because it is peak season. So it seems higher.

I am not sure which routes have the 330 all year round. But I am sure it is because of the season not the aircraft itself.

I fly internationally most all the time as I am living in Germany and my family is in the States. I am planing my November trip to PBI and really want to fly the 333 having done so once (in May 2001) and loved the inseat video's. (really nice on a 12 hour flight, ya know) As I plugged in dates to fly, the cost went up if I used the 333 or the LH 332. Maybe it is because of the peak hour it flies? Departure from FRA was after 11am.
ps. What are Preferred seats? What would they be in a 333? And, are 333's really difficult to get an upgrade in?
I am new to this forum and new to the 'art of flying'. I want to learn the ropes and be a savy flyer like you guys!
