Choice Privileges - Surprised by Choice Hotel Web Site Shady Deal

This evening I was making a reservation at the Choice hotel website (Comfort Inn). At the conclusion of the reservation process was an offer for a $10 discount off the price of your next stay. WARNING TO OTHERS: DO NOT CLICK YES!

The link turns out to be a shady deal where you are actually signing up for a $9 per month service for some sort of hotel discounts. Because of the reservation you just made, they already have your name and CC number so they do not need to ask you for it again.

At the Comfort Inn site, the "No, I don't want this offer" link did not work. I just closed the window and will watch my CC statements for the next couple of months for unauthorized charges and contest them if they begin.

I can imagine some shady web companies pulling this kind of deceptive stunt, but was surprised that a well-known brand like Choice would stoop to it.

I never saw this on the choicehotels.com site but is has popped up on some places I visit. There is a similar gasoline scam too. Scams are everywhere. Usually you can click on the top RH "X" and eliminate them or use the cont, alt and del key deal to eliminate it.
