Some friends from overseas will fly out of ORD, but would like to visit downtown Chicago for one or 2 days. I suggest they drop off the rental car at ORD, stay at a hotel with airport shuttle and in walking distance to the airport train to get downtown. I suggest they ride the trams downtown.

Please advise me of some hotels that have airport shuttels and are close to the train. Any additional advices are greatly appreciated.

Or . . . why not just stay downtown? You can get incredible deals on hotels like the Palmer House. Easy to get to by subway from the airport and since you are downtown, close to most everything you'd want to see on a quick tour of Chicago.

The kids love outdoor pools.
If they stay downtown they will have to allocate extra time to drive to ORD when they fly out, perhaps having diffilculty finding Hertz's lot etc. etc.

By stainig at the airport, they get rid of the car early, can take the train and then the tram when they are downtown.

Outdoor pool, Complimentary 24-hour airport shuttle service, cheap. The Radisson might fit the bill. The hotel will probably shuttle you to the Rosemont stop of the el train for free if you ask, instead of taking the el from the airport. http://www.radisson.com/rosemontil

Here is a map of other O’Hare area hotels: http://www.chicagotraveler.com/maps/chicago-ohare-hotel-map.htm

Good luck.

For reference, if you look at the map Willie posted, there are 'L' stops at O'Hare (under the parking garage), Rosemount/River Road (right by the Hyatt Regency O'Hare), and Cumberland (a little north of the Clarion Barcelo or west of the Amerisuites, which is a Springhill or Towneplace now, can't remember which).

Note: the train you will take from O'Hare ('L' Blue Line) and the trains around downtown are the same, they are all the CTA 'L' system. Details, maps, etc at http://www.yourcta.com/.
