For the 7 Jan JFK-HKG on CX 831

F4 A0 J9 C9 D0 I0 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M0 L0 V0 S0

I am still on WL at the moment. This is the FIRST time I was not able to get a confirmation within 72 hours for CX!!!!!

I am booked in D Class. I have confirmed on the CX889 but not on CX831.

Is this because of Payload weight restrictions, and CX will only release the seat closer to the time?

I might just do the CX889 (on a 34C) to YVR and stay at the fairmont till the afternoon and then get the CX839 (on a 744).

I really don't like the NBC on the 34C, 333 and 346. 744 is so much better on the Upper Deck (Especially Row 86)

Weekend travels are bad.. especially on the 7th is the end of the 1st week of holidays..! You'd have to be waitlisted because it is during a PEAK travel period.

I thought early January shouldn't be that bad.

The other strange reason is that the CX889 (when I book it) was still pretty empty.

Do they have special Weight Resrtictions on CX 831?

This is the FIRST time where CX haven't cofirm a seat for me within 48 hours, and the MPO officer I spoke to was pretty rude (pretty much said, too bad just wait ir purchase a C or J Class tix!). I think I better revert back to English next time in speaking to them!

Have any people noticed in the decline in the quality of CSO and MPO Call centre staff in the past year (esp, after SARS).....

Have any people noticed in the decline in the quality of CSO and MPO Call centre staff in the past year (esp, after SARS).....No For me the staff seem as competent as ever. What has changed is that a year ago you could get on any flight you wanted - now it is much harder work. This is not the fault of the MPC agents. But it does annoy me immensely that I have to use my hard-earned AsiaMiles on BA flights HKG-LHR because no CX flights seems to be available, even to a Diamond member. BA F is far inferior to CX F, as I was reminded last week.

Yes I must say I haven't claimed an Award since Pre-SARS!
I am not saying they are not compotent etc.... But they just don't treat the pax with the same courtesy as they used to , especially J and F Class (even in outports).

I know they can't control the inventory, but I do remember they used to be really friendly about it and suggest alternative. Also in checkin, they used to greet you and address you by name (after checking your passport). When I was in HKG earlier in the year, there is this Indian male check in agent (who spoke fluent Catonese).

He was efficient, but there was hardly any eye contact, and I have to ASK for my lounge invitation (which he forgot)-- How can you forget a lounge invitation working in a J Class Checkin Counter???

Also When I asked for a fragile sticker, he said no more. I am sure there must be some in the airport. In the end I have to WALK over myself to the opposite side (where the CXpress machines are and MPO service desk) and ask them for one. He really should've walk over there and sorted it out!

But anyway, I know I shouldn't be so Critical on CX, as I know what can happen on QF and AA (Agent Shouting @ F Class pax because they had 1 kg extra baggage etc.....)

But as I said before, in order for CX to gain its position in the region again, they must fine tune the customer service level to be consistent across the board (from MPO Call centre, to Reservations, to Checkin - lounge and aircraft).

I'm not sure I understand the relevance of the CX person's ethnicity here?

I am just trying to say, even with NON-Chinese Staff, service can be inconsistent.

I find this experience of yours completely laughable and I have a feeling you exaggerated this. Surely you made a complaint, "CX gold member"?

Flying FIRST CLASS more than half of my business trips with my husband, I assure you the service level has always been up there. The other day I just claimed an award HKG-JNB FIRST CLASS at the rate of 140,000 miles, and I just had to make a phone call. And as Christep mentioned, does the race of the checkin personnel matter?

I am not exaggerating.
Maybe I am not a DIAMOND member like you. Also I thought they dropped F Class to JNB already?
A few of my collegaues travelled on CX in J class also find the drop in quality.

As I said before The ethnicity of the agent is not the CONCERN here. It is just that there was an attitude problem with the agent.

All right, I just found it strange that you had to do things yourself. I need to apologise about the ethnicity issue, as I did not see that you replied to Christep's post prior to writing mine. And no, there is still F to JNB.

That is OK. I find sometimes, being assertive helps (but not being rude).
My poor edlerly Grandmother had a pretty bad experience earlier in the year (she was in J Class and she is a silver MPO).

She told me no one carried her hand luggage for her (just a small duffle bag) and they did not offer a buggie or anything.

Also as she doesn't speak english, I arranged Meet and Greet for her and the MPO Centre said Confirmed. But when she arrived in SYD, no-one was there, and luckily the ISM offered to escort her out and finally have to ask an QF rep to take her out.

I mean no matter you are in Y,J or F, I think elderly pax should be taken care of properly. It is just normal courtesy.

There are two things you need to do:

1) Complain about the Meet and Greet situation
2) Praise the ISM that offered her assistance

The good thing about CX is that they do take all comments, suggestions and complaints seriously (well at least from my experience).

I e-mailed the MPO service centre, and they acknowledged the mistake. They have credited 10,000miles to my grandmother's account (which I think is rather generous).

I remember also once I enquired about the situation of Row 80 in the Upper Deck (back in the Old Business Class days) and they reply to me in FULL WRITING (Letter) and also send me a CX Seat Map Guide as well!

This is Customer Service!

skye is correct. There are still some flights at certain times of the year (like peak winter seasons) from HKG to JNB that CX is offering F class service when they will be flying the 747-400s instead of the 34Ds.
