These states allow cashing Walmart cards for Money Orders

*************************************

I apologize for starting this thread but now that Charter One has lowered their limit, Walmart cards could be an option for people to rack up miles. The Walmart card thread was too big and complex to read through to find info on States where walmart was allowing us to cash out the cards for money orders.

To summarize, the following states are a go:
California
Utah

Your response regarding this experience is appreciated !!!

We don't need another thread on this. Really. Aside from my feelings on this scheme (that is, that it is unethical), one thread is enough.

All of the information necessary is in the first thread, and that thread already mentions all of the states where a merchant must cash out a gift card on request. (And Utah is NOT one of those states.)

There are three states, as far as I am aware, where a merchant is required to cash out a gift certificate by law. That's it. Anyone else doing this anywhere else in the country are taking advantage of Wal-Marts that choose not to follow company policy, not because of any law that requires it.

I agree with NAKO that we don't need another thread. But, more than that, your information is also wrong - if you read the other thread carefully, and the supplied links to California government-sponsored web sites, you will see that California does NOT require retailers to cash out gift cards.
